Concerning the Run Option QB

We ran it in 2010 while Juan was coaching the OL but as soon as Mudd came in with his zone blocking bullsh^t we havn't seem it since.
The run/option gave McCoy a huge year in 2010 just as it's doing for Frank Gore, Alfred Morris and Marshawn Lynch
Maybe we need to give some serious consideration to keeping Vick and implement the run/option.

i agree
all the talk last season was about how Tebow, and in particular, the read option, not being a sustainable offense in the NFL, due to the physicality of the defensive players at this level. all that talk kinda went away this season. but with Griffin going down this issue may again prove itself noteworthy. funny how flashes in the pan can change things for the moment.

Read option does not work in the NFL. The reason Morris is a beast in Wash is because Morris is a beast. Also, Mike Shanahan knows how to make and use running backs and offensive lines. Morris does not owe anything to either Griffin nor the read option. If you equate the read option to top tier running backs, let me know what happened in CAR this season? Oh right. People have tape on Newton, and he is not a good QB. Wilson in SEA just might be a good QB, and next season will prove if that's true or not. But seriously, look for RG3 to be out of football in 5 years. Look for Kaepernick to be following him. The read option is not a thing you want your 15m$ players to be involved in.
I say this it seems like every day when someone starts a topic related to let's run the option, or why didn't we pick this running QB, or why can't we keep Mike Vick. The option and all QB running works in college because 90% of the players on the field are not big enough fast enough or smart enough to play in the NFL (and 50% are not good enough to really be on a college field either). Usually the running QB is the fastest strongest player on the field at the time, and likely one of 10 players in the building who will ever wear an NFL jersey. Even that is stretching it. Hasn't Navy run the triple option forever? Hasn't Georgia Southern run it forever? Where are their HOF members? How about GT, Air Force, don't THEY have QBs starting in the NFL? Oh? They don't? This can't be, I thought the option was kewl? Even moreso, in college your QBs are ALWAYS between 17 and 23 years old, in the pros, they are always older than 20, and always get a year older each year until they die or retire. A 30 year old QB running the option is a joke, he is likely the slowest non-lineman on the field. Investing QB level draft picks and money in a player whose useful career is only a few years is stupid. Not to mention, once film is registered, the success of an option QB is gone. See fraud Newton.
The option, read option, triple option, flexbone, veer, whatever you want to call it, is not for the NFL. It's cute in college, but that's the only place it works.
Oh, and F Mike Vick.

I agree with this. And I think thats what we will see next year. Just have the end go after the QB regardless of the fake. The damage the RB will do is less that what the QB can do odds are. Always attack the QB and hopefully everyone else takes care of the RB.

3 of the 4 conference championship teams are traditional dropback QB's......again. And one of the 3 will win the super bowl this year....again.
I want the eagles to get a traditional pocket QB, who can move around in the pocket, and pick a team apart. Foles showed some capability this year. I'm
tired of the "mobile" QB who looks a 1-2 receivers, gets happy feet and takes off.....I want a guy who steps up in the pocket, moves out of the pocket but
never takes his eyes from downfield......

RG3 got his knee blown out and he was only 23....
Vick is 34 and already has a history of concussions, lost a step and is not very good. He should not be here in 2013 regardless what you do on Offense
The Read Option will fade away.......
two things are likely to happen........
1) at some point all QB's running the read option will gets seriously injured. It is not wise for your most important player on the field to take more hits than he needs to (why have them as a primary ball carrier where it only ups the chances of getting hurt) Once hurt he is OUT of the game and without another QB with the same skillset, you just threw away your whole offense.
2) The more NFL defenses see of this style of offense the less it will be effective.
