Just wondering if anyone knows...

They got Lurie, Roseman, Smolenski doing interviews...I'm sure they're not stupid enough to leave a football decision completely in the hands of 3 financial guys.

So do they have any one they've tapped for input with an actual football background and who are they if anyone knows?

I have heard so many people bring up this "financial guys" or "money guys" thing.

How many different ways can people call these guys Jews without actually saying it?

Lurie hired the last coach and that turned out ok, so I trust him in making a decision.

No, it's not that I don't trust them...and I'm not trying to disparage their ability with my question.

But I'm wondering if anyone knows who they have giving them advice on the Xs and Os side of things. I'm sure they do, just a question of who...

Lurie hired Andy and that worked out pretty well.

They should hire Matt Millen. Now there is a football guy who worked out well.

Having a football background doesn't mean you are a good football guy and vice versa. You don't need to play the game to understand the game.

This should be plastered at the top of TATE.

True.  I only wanted Lurie to consider bringing in someone who has a proven track record in talent evaluation since this was the opportune time (blowing up the entire staff).

But the bright side is, now that Lurie has all but announced Howie will be responsible for talent evaluation, if that area remains a sore spot, hopefully he'll be held accountable for it.

Lurie - Owned and operated an NFL team for almost two decades, with responsibility for all aspects of the team.

Smoleski - Lived and breathed NFL-level football for 15 years, has done nothing but football for that time

Roseman - Totally immersed in professional football for over a decade, including scouting and, recently, drafting, credited with arguably the best draft of the last ten years

"Football guy" - played 4 years of high school ball and two years of second string Community College ball. Obviously the best choice to hire an NFL HC.

Are there ever any football minds involved when hiring a head coach? It's the owners who are interviewing and hiring...

Lurie has done okay so far... Let's cut him some slack...

the "football guy" title may be one of the most overrated things in the NFL. The people who clamor about it are ex-players who are butt-hurt that a brainiac has the job they feel entitled too.

I have a credible source that informed me Lurie and Roseman check in with TATE for X's and O's every hour on the hour. I mean, how can you honestly say there is a better source for credible football knowledge than TATE?

Answer to "SKOODS".  Race, religion and politics has no business being mentioned in this topic or any other. The poster asked an perfectly answerable question and you had to put your two cents in where it was not necessary. No wonder the world has trouble changing to where we respect everyone else.

Are the other 31 teams really organized all that differently?  Do you know how many other teams carry your definition of "football mind" when interviewing a new head coach?  Which teams are you using as the model.  Please explain.

Wow, the term football mind is very touchy for some people....you confuse the question with me saying that I don't trust them because they never played the game. Not at all... A dozen replies and not one actual answer to the question...

What I mean by "football mind" is someone with some decent experience from a standpoint of coaching and a good understanding of the game. To me I think they would be foolish, regardless how long theyve been around football, to not have someone they can at least call and say "We interviewed so and so guy, what do you think of him for our team and personnel?" I mean guys like Dungy, Vermeil, who have a good relationship with the birds etc...have guys like that been in touch with them?

Oh who give a sh()t at this point, i dont even care anymore about the original question...get Gus in here so this thing can be over already

huh?  Not everything is racial, numbnuts.  It's the NFL,  the people making the call are operations, contracts guys,  not Xs and Os football types.  You know, the kind that looked at Dannny Watkins and said he's a cant miss talent.

I wish I could give a negative rating to a post.

To my understanding Laurie paid top dollar to have the heads of Vince Lombardi, George Hallas and Bill Walsh dug up and removed from their corpses. Before each interview the Jeff Howie and Don make a fruit smoothy that includes bits of brain matter from each of the heads.

I've asked that question about 20 times over the past few years. The consensus, based on the very few responses I've gotten, is "Somebody who played football once".

Does the "football mind" work differently? Does it have laces on cerebrum? Or is a mind that has been concussed after a years of football to the point where they drool uncontrollably and forget where they live? I need to know...

Jeffrey Lurie has owned the Philadelphia Eagles, a professional football team for over 18 years, I'd definitely consider him a football guy.
