This hire might have 'feast or famine' written all over it, don't you think?

It's hard to picture this being an 8-8, 9-7, 7-9 type deal - he's going to be the next great thing or he's just the next Spurrier, and given what you read about the work ethic and amount of preparation this guy does, there's a pretty good chance of it being the former.

It will be interesting to see what he does as far as coaching hires - I'd love to see a guy like Lovie Smith brought in to run the defense, and I'm sure Chip will be doing the offense.

Fascinating times ahead, that's for sure. It is a great time to be an Eagles fan, and we have some juice here for the first time in ages.

Again though, I have to reference Petrino here. This guy just went back to Oregon with a "staunch" committment to staying there after being interviewed, and out of no where he's now our hew head coach? But yeah, this could be awesome. A lot depends on who he brings in for coordinators. Lovie hasn't been shown much interest by other teams as far as head coaching goes and I'd love to snag him.

Btw, WTF with the Bears firing Lovie and deciding a Canadian football league coach could do a better job?

Yeah, wacky move by the Bears - they clearly wanted to go offense, but Trestman?      Wasn't he a 'hot' commodity a few years ago?

Lovie's options are limited to this or Jacksonville HC, and quite frankly, this is probably a much better gig to get him in line for a good HC job in the next couple of years.

Shocked but very happy. My only concern is his ability to commit.

Have you familiarized yourself with Chip's offensive philosophy ?  If so you might be a little less cynical, although given your name, maybe not.

There are multiple sources close to Chip saying he's not close minded, that he won't enter the NFL with a "this is how I do it" philosophy. That he will look at what the Eagles have and adjust. Exciting stuff.

I don't know about that - Kelly loves to run the ball extensively, and does it in very creative ways - it's all about creating mismatches. Belicheck has been utilizing a lot of Kelly type stuff in the Patriot offense this year, so this isn't some gimmick laden crap we're getting.    The key will be getting personnel in here he can work with.

Listen, this is a f****ng jolt of electricity in the place after waking from about a five year coma - enjoy it!

I agree, but no guts, no glory. I personally love the hiring. I was getting concerned that they would go with a no-name or someone like Billick. I would've been content with Gus Bradley, but this actually excites me. I've criticized Lurie endlessly for refusing to take a risk, so I have to give him credit for taking a major risk here. I'm elated.

I hear you and I'm trying to enjoy it, but if he continues with Vick as the starter you might read about me in the paper.

Yeah, and how about a**holes like Peter King and whatever-his-name-is from CBS - what's their story today with egg running down their faces? Someday everyone will stop taking anything they say remotely seriously, and put them out of business.

I don't want any part of Vick (never did), but if he just flat out believes Foles isn't the answer, and one year of Vick transitions us to his next phase, so be it.

I can't see it simply because I don't think Vick is at a stage where he'll want to be a 'caretaker'.     Let's hope, anyway.

I never totally disagreed with your point on this, but I still believe that Roseman was a factor in the search. I guess we'll never have 100% confirmation either way.

Anyone can quote me, this hire will set the team back 3 to 5 years, the guy coached in a college conference like wise to the CFL

So did Jim Harbaugh.  You might be right or wrong and we will all see soon enough.  However, your stated reasoning is clearly flawed.

Yep, and who cares, right?        It's on Roseman to bring guys in that Kelly can win with, and he has no place to hide.       I hope he succeeds wildly.

Sorry Rodney, but your belief that Belicheck is highly overrated doesn't exactly give you the greatest credibility on matters like this.  ;)

Harbauhs Cardinal teams where physical, pro style and no gimmics, Harbaugh played in the NFL, Harbaugh played under a HOF coach, Harbaugh made the Pro Bowl, Harbaugh coached in the NFL

What are you basing your prediction on? The fact that he coached in college? Sorry pal, you'll need a better argument than that. Just because a guy ran an college offense in a college football league doesn't mean he can/will try to do the same thing in the NFL. Besides, what is "setting the team back" entail? We're already 4-12 aren't we? Even if Chip falls flat on his face we aren't any farther away from a SB than we were 3 years ago.

There is a reason the Rooney's of the NFL are successful.  They are boring, predictable, and practical.  The Eagles were so close to making a practical HC hire, only to get this.  So Howie Roseman can give his critics the middle finger for a one week media splash.  If Nick Foles and/or Gus Bradley is hoisting a Lombardi trophy in another city in a few years, remember this day.

I'm ecstatic about this move. Chip's an offensive genius. He will construct his offense to fit the talent of the player. Chip runs the ball nearly 70%. He just runs out of the gun and no huddle. Due to the new rules, standing under center and running three yards with a cloud of dust are long gone.

I'll be interested to see who he hires as the DC.

Quoted and agree. This was the worst case scenario for me. I can't understand the love for this guy for the life of me. Should have just kept Reid. :-)  Now we're both on record Rod.
