Long, confusing, and very much worth a read. Too long to post the whole thing here, but a very convincing article. This is some crazy ****.

You can't? Fame and fortune, my friend. Everyone in the country knows his name, and who knows how much money he made doing interviews on tv and whatever else. I bet he comes out with a book about it soon if he hasn't already.

On Dec. 26, Notre Dame coaches were informed by Manti Te’o and his parents that Manti had been the victim of what appears to be a hoax in which someone using the fictitious name Lennay Kekua apparently ingratiated herself with Manti and then conspired with others to lead him to believe she had tragically died of leukemia. The University immediately initiated an investigation to assist Manti and his family in discovering the motive for and nature of this hoax. While the proper authorities will continue to investigate this troubling matter, this appears to be, at a minimum, a sad and very cruel deception to entertain its perpetrators.

You made up a dead girlfriend to do what, sell your image? Boost your Heisman votes? This kid was a legend at Notre Dame. He was beloved. That entire place embraced him like I've never seen before, and Notre Dame worships their players, love them or hate them.
I have never seen a player more revered than Manti Te'o after those passings this season. People were crying for him in the stands.
Then he mentioned it after every single game.
I say if just in case this is a huge misunderstanding (which is nearly impossible in my opinion), but if this is true he's scum. I'm so furious I'm afraid to comment on it right now as I'll go too far with hyperbole.
Again, no way Deadspin would have put this out without being 100-percent behind it.
Unf'ingbelievable.

When they came to Tui, I thought it was going to go that way. I thought we were going to learn Manti was in fact in love with a man and that he died in a car accident.
I would have been fine with that and been a bit mad that Deadspin outed him for being a homosexual.
Obviously not the case.

Notre Dame is full of crap. I've stood up for them when I knew what has really happened behind the scenes on some important things, but this stinks to high hell.
Unless Manti was being duped for 3 years by Tui and another girl to possibly commit some sort of confidence scheme against him (Mormons aren't allowed to kiss, so not seeing each other wouldn't be uncommon), there is no out here.
I don't buy Notre Dame's statement at all.

I can't even buy that he was taken advantage of here.
I'm sorry, there's just no way he wasn't a part of this. Awfully convenient he pulled out of the Senior Bowl and hasn't spoken since the end of the season as well.
I wouldn't draft him. Wouldn't have him as part of my organization. I'm not buying.

Oh yeah, if you've got a family member or friend who has dealt with Leukemia it's even worse. It's like the Sandusky situation and having been through sexual abuse or having known someone.
Just amplifies it.
