He knew the guy behind the fake account and the relationship went on for that long without him getting suspicious about never being able to see her in person or even talk to her over the phone?
Still to be completely fair it sounds as if the guy behind the account went to some lengths to create this person and get pictures on an account that wasn't public or whatever. Weird and definitely when combined with his performance in the Bowl game his draft stock has taken a serious hit.

In all seriousness, this is a ****bag move and shows a lack of maturity on his part. His draft stock is definitely falling. Its bad enough we have a slimy coach here, we don't need slimy LB's in addition to that.

No. Manti and his close friend Tuiasasopo cooked this whole thing up to get Heisman consideration and increase his draft status. Manti said he met this chick in person in 2009 and that they spent time together in Hawaii and in South Bend. Now he is saying that he never met her as it was all online.
Insane.

It definitely looks like he was in on it.
The only that may cast doubt was the bit where the friend got pictures of the girl that he was pretending to be. I'm not really sure why he did that. He either has horrible judgement as he is so easily duped or he did all this as a publicity stunt to get the Heisman either way though he's no longer a sure thing first round pick.

Who in the world would act that way?
The school didnt know he never met her? No one ever saw her but thought it was normal?
He had to be in on it IMO.

That's one reason. A second would be the attention. Helped his heisman campaign in a sick way
It was a 3+ year hoax. Way before any potential Heisman consideration. So how did it help?
For over three years, this kid who became a star player at Notre Dame, declined dates with real girls because he had a fake Internet girlfriend? Weird.
Why didnt he once visit her after her horrible car accident?
Why didnt he once visit her as she lay on her hospital bed dying from lukemia?

I really wonder how much this is going to hurt his draft stock. Teams are going to look at him as a lier now. Questionable charataer (SP?)
I bet he drops off of a few teams draft board completley
