A league source tells Derrick Gunn of CSN Philadelphia that new Eagles head coach Chip Kelly is trying to convince Georgia defensive coordinator Todd Grantham to take the same position in Philadelphia.
Grantham joined Georgia in 2010 and guided the Bulldogs to the nation's 18th-ranked scoring defense this past season (19.6 points against per game).
Grantham does have NFL experience with previous stints as an assistant with Dallas, Cleveland, Houston and Indianapolis.
Thoughts ?

From the analysts and Phillys insiders it sounds like Grantham will be the next DC. He runs a 3-4 at Georgia and will implement that here in Philly. We have some of the players to run a 3-4 but will have to upgrade at LB. We don't have that big anchor of a NT either and Star L'telli would be a nice pickup at #4. I think our biggest concern is the secondary, what to do with Asomugha and DRC? Have to upgrade at safety across the board whether its FA or the draft.
My bet is that Kelly and new DC will clean house on the defensive side and get players in here that want to bleed Eagle Green.

The biggest concern will be Cox, Kendricks, Graham, Cole, Curry, and any other talented DT DL LBs and how they adjust and fit in to the new scheme.

Grantham would be fine with me - his defenses at Georgia attack and are very physical.
The personnel part means very little - this isn't a one year turnaround situation, so if a solid DC runs the 3-4, the players immediately on hand don't have to fit it perfectly right now.
And if it's Grantham, I hope that means there's a chance of taking Jarvis Jones at #4.

I think Kelly's reputation is that he'll adjust the scheme to them. Supposedly he loves the attacking aggressive style which is cool. I don't think he's "it has to be a 3-4" guy though. If the DC he hires wants a 3-4 or a 4-3 from what I can tell he leaves it to his coaches.

Well, 90 % of TATE thinks the 4-3 is soft, the Tampa 2 is soft, and the 3-4 is the cure for everything

Get Horton! He is out in Arizona. Get him before Banner so we take two of his coach choices!

Cox could be a end in a 3-4, Kendricks could move back to his MLB position and would be nice there in a 3-4. When graham was drafted many experts said he would be good as a outside pass rusher in a 3-4. As for Cole, he would not fit, and would not be worth the money hes being paid to be in on situational downs. Curry who knows, could try him outside, if it works great, if not, he can be put in on situational pass rush downs.
Just cause a coach is a 3-4 base doesnt mean they dont throw in 4 man fronts. So you can use hand down pass rushers as well on the team. Look at the ravens, they mix both in all the time. I dont mind a 3-4. gets you faster on the field, esp in todays NFL. Not to mention the 3-4 you can hide zone blitzes etc alot better.
Either way 3-4, 4-3 this Defense needs to be rebuilt. This should be a intresting offseason.

I don't know who the DC will be. The staff is in the process of being put together. I'd rather comment once the staff is complete.
