"I've never run the zone read," Foles said after the season. "I'm more of a dropback guy. I've been under center. I've been in the gun. If I can adapt, I want to. But I'm not a zone-read quarterback. Some people are gifted with different things. That's just not one of my skill sets. I can work on the speed in the offseason and get better with that. But I've always been a dropback guy in the pocket. I've been able to make plays on my feet throwing the ball or running for a first down."

Kelly adapts to what he's got. I wouldn't be too worried about it.

Yeah, the last thing the Eagles need is a quarterback. Said the man who just woke up from a coma.

Very misleading title for this thread.

These comments that Foles made weeks ago are completely irrelevant to whether he is with the team in 2013 or not.

Thats one thing I don't like about Foles, he can't answer any question unless it's with some cliched coach or player speak.   He wasn't coached on how to answer this and he can't think for himself.

Foles favorite color is blue & Chip's favorite color is yellow, oh dear this will never work.

It would be nice if Chip can make Foles work but if he can't, so what.  Foles has shown some good things but hardly enough to be called "the guy".

I hate Foles = Foles will never work in Chip's system

I love Foles = Foles will work fine in Chip's system

For myself, check back again in September.  If Chip like what he sees in Foles, he'll find a way to work with Foles' skill set.  If not, I expect to see another QB sooner rather than later and he probably won't be wearing #7.  I sure hope Chip doesn't  make his decisions based on what he reads here ;) .

He might be the guy for next season but it'll most likely be a one year rental. Chip is gonna bring in his QB in 2014.

So what do you suggest? Have Vick play quarterback? Yeah, he is the guy... All 12 touchdowns, 11 interceptions, and 8 fumbles in the span of 10 games. Vick was a freaking turnover machine!

It's not like Foles has been molded already. Kelly can still mold Foles. The guy only had like what 6-7 and a half games?

And when he is unhealthy he is sitting on the bench with a concussion. At least when Foles played, you knew he was a rookie and made many rookie mistakes...

Vick on the other hand... He was a veteran making rookie mistakes. I don't want to hear this "offensive line wasn't healthy" or "lets see Vick play street ball" I'm done making those excuses. The reason why was because last year he was a turnover machine too with a healthy offensive line. We better get this guy out of here before he continues to mess this team up.

Yep. I'd say so.

I think Kelly was vague about his long term plans...as I expected...but his repeated answer to the questions about the QB and offense were about adapting to personnel and playing to the strengths of what he has. He said it over and over. He had lots of good things to say about Foles. He stressed how he values toughness and that Foles has it in spades. This is because he stressed durability from his QB. He also loved his smarts and accuracy. I take that as a temporary vote for Foles by Chip.

Now, if Foles leaves him frustrated after a season (or less), he may pull a trigger faster and go elsewhere. But if he and Foles end up with a good rapport and good results, it would be foolish to go after a different QB. I think 2013 will tell us a lot. If the 2014 draft sees a high pick to his kind of QB, I'd say the writing is on the wall for Foles. But for now, his fate is not sealed. It's wide open.

What I'm suggesting is more radical than that.  Consider the following: Chip might choose to go with a quarterback other than Foles or Vick.
