Alright, I'm warming up to Chip and his potential for our offense, but his lack of NFL experience is still a concern.  I'm beginning to hear rumors that he is looking at college coaches from Georgia and Alabama for potential defensive coordinator roles.  Too much college influence on the coaching staff is a big mistake.

Regardless of its offensive performance, this team needs to return to the defensive prowess we had under JJ. We need a smash mouth mentality brought on by an experienced defensive mind who has a proven success record in the NFL.

Of all teams, haven't the Eagles learned over the past three seasons that new, inexperienced defensive coordinators don't work in this league?

Agree/disagree?  Who would best fit this mold that is still availible?

Todd Grantham was the defensive coordinator of the browns. Ignoring the fact he tried to submarine the head coach during that time and had defenses ranked in the 20's everyone seems to like him.

Good point, forgot that Grantham was down there now.  I would love a guy like Spagnuolo...but obviously he's not on the market.  Not sure that Kirby Smart makes a succesful transition to the NFL either.

Now that all the HC positions are filled, I wonder if that is more of a posibility?

Still think this is doubtful, but I wouldn't mind.

He's likely sitting out the season, but its worth a try to convince him to join us.

Chip might not be done adding coaches from the Browns and Bills to his staff.

Two names to watch for the DC position are Dave Wannstedt and D Jauron. Both have been replaced with coordinators of the new HC's choosing so they are available. They both also run a 4-3 scheme and have plenty of NFL experience as DC and HC.

The fact that Kelly has hired/retained coaches from the teams he interviewed with (Browns/Bills/Eagles) is interesting. Maybe that is simply a coincidence since the team did interview Herrmann of the Giants yesterday.

Wannstedt was a diaster with the Bills and like Jauron I don't think he runs a real aggressive D which Chip seems to want.

Juan had legit NFL experience and has legit NFL experience as a DC now. What we need is a good DC, whether he has NFL experience or not.

Eagles are focusing their DC search on NFL guys first, is the way I hear it. For now, plan isn't to dip into the college ranks.

This doesn't bother me at all, I like the way Kelly is going about his coordinators.

So whom out there are potential suitors? I heared Trogvac's name mentioned, is this still true?

Anyone from the Packers defensive staff scares me, they have been horrible two straight years, and it's not like they have a lack of talent.

At this point it's hard to say what's true and what's not because the Eagles aren't gonna confirm or deny any coaching moves until the staff has been filled. If I had to guess, I'd say Trgovac's possibly one of the top choices. I'd also say he'd look to the staffs of the playoff teams that were either just eliminated or weren't available for interviews before.

I suggest the same thing myself.   Some say he might want to take a year off because of te KC inciden,  but I don't know.   I don't know why the Eagles wouldn't at least give him a call.

Agreed. They still haven't figured out how to stop a mobile QB.

He's getting older and he may want to take a break in order to decide if he wants to continue coaching or he could just wanna sit back & collect the money that KC owes him.

Yeah, he's the guy I'd like to have.  He's a terrible head coach, but he knows how to build a D.

That's what I would do since taking a DC job would mean much less money.

Actually they do have lack of talent.  They only have one pass rusher and the best DB is like 50 yrs old.

Maybe not, but it would allow him to be in full charge of the D and call the plays.

It is very, very rare for coordinators to make lateral moves.  Ray Horton was allowed to do it because they changed HC and passed on him for the position.  Normally coordinators only move of they are fired or get a HC job.
