Chip Kelly was expected to bring some of his favorite people from Oregon with him to the Philadelphia Eagles and it appears as if he has plucked another of his Oregon guys. According to The Register Guard, James Harris will make the jump to the NFL with Kelly, leaving his post as chief of staff with the Ducks to become an assistant general manager with the Eagles.
Harris started with Oregon in 2007 as a nutritionist and was named chief of staff last season. He's been called a mentor by a slew of Oregon players, who say that he has helped them adjust to college life and being an adult. It is expected that Harris will help Kelly with personnel decisions, but more so with teaching the players life skills.
Several other Oregon staffers could also join Kelly in Philadelphia. Jerry Azzinaro, who was the assistant head coach in Eugene, will likely be the Eagles' defensive line coach, while Greg Austin, Matthew Harper and Todd Lyght are all expected to be hired by Philadelphia in some roles.

Associate athletic director James Harris began work with the University of Oregon Athletic Department in 2007 after a five-year tenure as coordinator of sports nutrition at the University of Nebraska.

Harris was named the football program's chief of staff in 2012 after spending the previous five years overseeing the implementation of nutrition plans for all sports.

He earned an undergraduate degree in nutritional science and dietetics from Nebraska in 2000, as well as a master's in nutrition and health sciences in 2004.

James has been a member of the American Dietetics Association since 2001, has been active in the International Society of Sports Nutrition since 2003, and has been involved with the Sports, Cardiovascular and Wellness Nutritionist Association since 2004.

They brought in the dietician a year too late.  He could've really helped Reid.

Nepotism? Bringing in somebody you used to work with that you feel is an asset is not nepotism. It's in fact smart and it's done all the time by successful leaders.

I saw this on Oregon's Message Board:

Harris was in charge of travel for recruits, nutrition and generally was almost like a team 'nanny'. Which sounds degrading, but when LaMike had his 'girl problems' it was Harris he called first and stayed with.

This is one example but the team loved him and he was a key person around the team. He was a great guy to have around.

He was technically a nutritionist which was vital to the players staying healthy with the uptempo.

Harris is a big loss for Oregon and a big pickup for Philly. He's highly respected within the Oregon program and I suspect will play a key, if under the radar, role in the transition to Chip's vision. Chip believes strongly in the role of proper nutrition, particularly with respect to post-practice recovery and the types of foods which should be a part of night before the game meals and day of game meals. I'm sure most NFL teams already closely monitor this type of thing, but it was one of the big things Harris changed at Oregon.

He was also well known as a great relationship guy, who connected players and staff. This part may be less a piece of his role with Philly, but the skills that made him effective doing that, will likely serve him well in whatever role he plays within the Eagles Organization.

Yeah i'm reading the Duck's message board, they seem like this is a huge loss for them.

That's for the heads up on him. Couldn't hurt to have a guy like this around the team, sounds like somebody Chip really enjoys having around.

Hopefully the players will feel the same way.

Very interesting concept of a "life coach."  According to some Ducks fans and the article posted he made a huge impact on Oregon players.  I see this as a step in the direction of making this team even younger.  It will also be interesting to see if this guy can get a high upside guy with weight problems like Antonio Dixon to play to his potential.
