It's called a getting a promotion and moving up, Chuck Knoll promoted Bud Carson, Parcells promoted Bellicheck, Buddy ryan was a Sec coach before Bud Grant hired him as the Vikes DC. JJ was a NFL DC once(Colts) then Seahawks Sec coach before Reid hired him.
there are plenty of coaches that were promoted and moved up that failed miserably too
again, I don't know about Tomasula, I was asking why the poster thought he would be a terrific candidate

Steve Spags has ties in Philly. I think we are holding off to check Ed Donatell. Billy Davis is almost a philabuster (yea, play on words) candidate to buy time until after the Super Bowl. I would love to see Donatell in Philly. The man commands respect, and knows how to utilize talent in the secondary (which we have). He can run either the 3-4 or the 4-3, but this league is almost showing more success with the 3-4. I am ok with either. If he could get more production out of our DBs and more heat out of our line...go for it! We will be ok. The crop is thick, and we are no longer playing Andy's favs. Chip will select the BEST candidate. The more help he has on D - the easier his transition to the NFL will be - he knows that.

Teaser, you can't rule out Ron Rivera who has ties in Philly and is on thin ICE this year in Carolina. Personally, I hope we pass on Spags. I'd be VERY happy with Donatell. The man knows football.

Not a single person had a clue wo Jim Johnson was when AR brought him here. He was a coach on some of the worst teams in the NFL for years the Cards and the Colts let the guy get hired and see what happens.
