With the recent hiring of Pat Shurmur it seems to me that Chip Kelly is trying to surround himself with a bank of knowledge on the offensive side of the ball.  The Oregon offense as been discussed ad nauseam so I won't go there.  Shurmur represents everything Chip doesn't; he's an NFL lifer, former NFL HC, and he runs an extremely conservative offense.  So if this team is going to try and stay ahead of the curve and have experts of all fields of offense on the staff, then why not Chris Ault, the father of the Pistol?

No he doesn't have NFL experience, and that's important to have on the new staff, but he's an innovator and he understands offensive football.  Give him the title of "Senior Offensive Assistant" or something and let him help make this offense special.

he retired some weeks ago, you think he would want to jump back into a coaching gig

It was strongly implied when he stepped down from Nevada that he wanted to go into the NFL.

Shurmur is being brought in as a glorified QB coach and to maybe help with some scheming. Chip will call all the plays come Sunday...With all that being said it was thought to be that Ault retired because he wanted to try out the NFL in some capacity.
