The Spread is a 4-5 WR sets spread out for the most part.
most generic way to explain these without going all wikipedia

Also off of the line the QB can read the defense better standing up, and audible, and make pre-snap adjustments.
There's a lot of pressure on the defense to contain the QB, RB, and passing attack.
Spread you just spread out as many fast guys as you can and send them on different routes.
They talk about the Redskins, 49ers, and Seahawks the most because they all have mobile QBs so you have to account for them, while you make sure you defend the other options on the field.

read option, RB run
read option, QB run
read option, QB pass
Here's the spread offense. Besides spreading receivers out to create room, the QB is in shotgun (so he can read a particular defender) and the RB is to the left or right of him. The QB reads what the uncovered defender is going to do and bases his next decision on that:

For example....look at Alabama's pistol O that's a run/pass option offense as opposed to a read option pistol we see with the 9'rs right now. The spread can either be an all out passing attack or a run based scheme based on isolating certain positions and attacking the weaknesses of certain match ups. It's a very open ended question.

If this oline doesnt improve from last season, they should never run a read option pass. The QB will get killed.

Alot of this is what we're going to do, now stop us. Sure there's a bit if gimmickry thrown in, but overall he's showing his hand ahead of time, but it's not so confusing that his own damned team can't run it or it takes too damned long to develop. The Anti-Reid offense.
