Hey Dave, what makes Chip think that he is a good candidate? He didn't last long with the Falcons, Packers, and Broncos as the D-coordinator.  http://en.wikipedia....Ed_Donatell

IIRC he was with  the Broncos as a  DC too, and has not been productive as a DC, there are better candidates out there "if" we go 3-4, and BTW, Donatell ran a 4-3 in all of his stops, and coaching a SEC in a 3-4 does not = Knowledge of the 3-4.
I would rather look at Jim Tomasula, Winston Moss, Pepper Johnson, or Jim Leavitt

Jim Tomasula would be my ideal choice.

Me too, he's learned the ropes under a few 3-4 DC's, his defensive lines are productive as well. If Kelly hires Donatell I will rip my earlobes off

Tomasula doesn't have a lot of experience.  While he may turn out to be a great DC at some point, it would be a huge leap of faith on Chip's part to hire him for the DC job.  I don't know how the Eagles would be familiar enough with him to be comfortable planning that move.

That could go with many of DC's past and present, like Bellicheck, Parcells promoted him, Marinelli, straight from college, Dungy, youngest DC in the NFL when hired by the Steelers, etc..... Thing is, there are not a lot of 3-4 coaches out there, why not hire a guy who's done well as a position coach in a 3-4 (if we go there?) and go with it. I do not want Donatell at all

Like Reid did when he hired Johnson and Dowhower to be his coordinators.  Come to think of it, that worked out pretty well . . .

All I know is that the Eagles said if they hire Chip Kelly... he will need a very experienced DC... the guy who comes to mind right now is Spagnola.
Spags was a disciple of Jim Johnson, he was the reason the Giants beat the Pats in the super bowl. Spags does not have Head Coaching material in him either... and folks... lets face it... New orleans was screwed before the season started this year... with Brees having issues with signing with the team, the whole bounty bowl mess, players getting suspended... that whole organization was like a ship lost at sea.

I know people are saying that Kelly wants to implement a 3-4... but with that said... how many LBs do we have? You would have to convert a DE to play LB. The LB position will be in demand this year too with the Browns and the Saints changing over to 3-4.

I like the 3-4 it is more aggressive with have more athletic guys running around... I just dont know who we could have to fill those LB positions...

and what about our SECONDARY.... OH MAN!!!!... between the safety and the corners... So many questions and so many holes.

I was under the impression that the Eagles and Kelly were focused on hiring an experienced DC.  Could that be wrong ?  Of course.

JJ was a relative unknown like Reid when he hired him. Dowhower was definitely old boy network guy.

The report you linked....if you read through it....cites Howard Eskin as it's only source.

Donatell may or may not be the next DC, but I am confident that Eskin has no clue.

James,

The fact that the Eagles haven't named one at this juncture, can IMO, only mean two possible things. First, that they are not finished with doing their due diligence and wish to interview SB coaches before deciding, or that they have decided, and their guy is one of the SB coaches.  I choose to believe it is the first possibility, because they have plenty of time to finish off the coaching staff. To talk to everybody before deciding is more in character with this team, than deciding on a guy without talking to him or deciding on a guy without talking to every possible candidate. JMO, of course.
