This doesn't happen often, but it appears that the -$16 million of estimated cap room on eaglescap.com is misleading.  Many different sites (ESPN and NFL Future) have the Eagles carrying over $23 million from last year's cap (as per the most recent collective bargaining agreement).

Once the Vick and Nnamdi situations are resolved it appears that the Eagles should have plenty of room for an impact free agent or two.

Is this correct?

(EDIT) Cutting Demetress Bell saves another $9.6 million(!!!) in cap room.  Cap room should really be no issue, at all.

Good point. That's a definite.  Wow, $9.6 of savings with no dead money!

Cap room should be no problem at all.

By my calculations they will have 17 million to spend by cutting Bell, Vick and Aso.

They would then have the option to roll over a chunk or all of the 23 million from last year to front load a contract or two.

I'm guessing, once all the cuts and re-structures take place, we should  be in the neighborhood of $40-$42 million

I don't think they restructure Vick or Nnamdi, or rollover that much, but see my original post below

Bell, Vick, and nnamdi restructure should be about 32-33 off the books. It also depends on guys like Dunlap, Tapp, if Cole stays etc...

So we can assemble Dream Team part 2 ?

I like the idea of cap space to lock up young, homegrown talent that show they deserve to be here long term vs. buying veterans from other teams (with the exception of filling a hole here or there that wasn't filled through the draft) - but certainly do not need $60M for that.

Vick might be back at a reduced contract. I really don't think the Eagles cut Nnamdi because of the uncertainty of DRC no way the Eagles lose both starting CBs with no one to take their place.

That's going a little crazy. I'd only cut Vick, Bell, and Nnamdi due to the high numbers. The other players don't cost much.

Bringing in people that aren't garbage would be nice (which could be from draft or FA).  All the guys I listed are either old, washed up, or pure trash.  Expendable.  Cap space isn't an issue as you can see.

The players that don't cost much... are the ones that can be replaced with better players that don't cost much... lol.  Most of those guys are a joke.  And what's painful is some of them were starters... smh.  Destroy and rebuild with Chip guys.

That looks like 46 million to me, and alot of those guys are fine in backup roles.

Umm, you take them to training camp and make sure they suck first. The worst thing the team could do was to cut a bunch of guys before Chip Kelly got a chance to work with them. You still need camp bodies, either way.

plus, Nnamdi has already said he would restructure his Contract to stay in Philly... He wants to be an Eagle... those are the guys you WANT on your team.

This is after Chip's evaluates that they suck of course.  Most of us already know.  Again... point is cap space will not be an issue.  Plenty are expendable.

There are a couple they may want to consider (Dorenbos, Maclin, Kelce, Graham, Henery, Cooper, etc.) and potentially in 2015 Cox, Kendricks, Curry, Boykin, Brown).

Don't want if they suck :)  But I don't mind Nnamdi staying provided the DC realizes that he IS NOT a 'shut down leave him on an Island type' corner.  Give him help over the top at all times.

That helps too.  Unfortunately I think the Washburns system exposed the Safeties even more.  It made slightly below avg safeties horrendous.

Safety play throughout the NFL is awful on average in comparison to just 5-10 years ago. This is thanks in large part to the new rules. Dawkins in his prime would be flagged left and right the way games are officiated right now.

Washburn's system was awful for the entire back 7. Even still they didn't perform half as bad as TATErs choose to believe and this defense isn't as far off as anyone thinks.

They were unquestionably one of the best defenses in the league by almost every major measure in 2012 until Castillo got fired and Bowles started changing things up.

That being said I wouldn't hesitate to make some changes if the opportuniy arrises. I'd look to dump off both Patterson and and Jenkins and sign Melton in FA if the bears don't re-sign him. I also might take a risk on Grimes returning back healthy at the right price.

There's a lot of interesting names on the FA list on the defensive side of the ball for all levels of play

I'd like to have some of what you're drinking.  This defense has a glaring problem... they can't tackle when in position (mostly referring to the secondary on this one)!
