What do you suppose the odds are that this same conversation happened in 1978, when we ent from 14 to 16 games?

And what do you want to bet that there's a Lawyer's Loophole in the current CBA that will allow the NFL to at least open the idea of an 18-game season without waiting for the next set of negotiations.

Not very likely. With the amount of lawyers they had involved with this, they went through the CBA with a fine toothed comb and closed up any type of loopholes that could involved, opt outs, work stoppages, changes to certain things in the CBA.

But the players would never agree to it though. It doesn't matter what happens. Goodell was pressing for that in the last round of negotiations and he realized it wasn't gonna happen. There's no way he can parade around talking about player safety and then at the same time, try to press for more games. There's no way.

Sorry if this has been discussed earlier, but I'm pretty sure that's WHY he's talking about player safety.

If he can prevent injuries and limit concussions...essentially, making football a less-physical game...then he can justify squeezing an extra 2 games out of players. I'm not the conspiracy theory type, but as soon as I heard about his interest in player safety, I knew he was gonna make a hard push for more games.

Anyway, I'm hoping that the Player's Association holds their ground. But if Goodell decides to throw extra money at the players (with the extra revenue generated by 2 more games), then he just might get his wish.....his wish of screwing up pro football.

He tried that the last time around and the players didn't budge. I have no reason to believe that'd change any time soon.

rotating qbs....sounds alot like the jets...i dont like it. It doesnt give either one of the qbs any time to get adjusted...to get confidence...specially if every game ( or even worse throughout the game) they switch up qbs...no chemistry between the wideouts and the qbs..i really cant see it happening. And like someone said in this topic...its a bigger chance that both qbs get injured if they rotate

Anybody who followed the CBA negotiations and didn't see this crystal clearly, needs a new pair of glasses.  The NFL backed off on 18 games, but then proceeded to lay all the groundwork for 18 games.  The NFl will throw more money at the players, but at the CBA table it would have been a greater percentage.

In order to get to 18 games, the NFL needs to water your pro football drink a little more for "safety reasons".  They are almost there.  As soon as the kevlar style gear is tested and ready for official use, 18 games will happen.

If Kelly does use it this year, and he might, I want to be the first to say that Kelly is only doing what will INEVITABLY become commonplace in the NFL.  When the NFL goes to 18 games it will officially stretch past the amount of games you can keep a Qb playing every snap healthy.  Qb's, just like goalies and catchers will rarely play every snap by the end of this decade so please do not freak out if Chip brings his "college tactics".

No.

You have no clue what you are talking about.  WOW, comparing QB's with Goalies and Catchers.     Dumbest post in months.
