CUTS
N. Asomugha
D. Bell
K. Coleman
M. Vick
DO NOT RESIGN
K. Dunlap
D. Landri
D. Rodgers-Cromartie
D. Tapp
RESIGN
C. Anderson 2 yrs./$2 million (Special Teams Leader and decent backup at S)
J. Dorenbos 2 yrs./$1.75 million (Magic Man, consistency at Long Snapper)
A. Jordan 1 yr/$750,000 (Reliable depth at LB)
J. Scott 2 yrs/$2.5 million (Depth at OL)
FREE AGENCY
RT Gosder Cherilus 4 yrs/$26 million (With Riley Reiff due to take over RT in Detroit, Cherilus loses out in a numbers game. He is above-average in pass protection, ranked number two in that category in 2012 by PFF. This move pushes Heremanns back to RG where he is more comfortable. It also allows the Eagles to focus on the secondary in the upcoming draft.)
DE Matt Shaughnessy 3 yrs//$9 million (Raiders let him test FA and the Eagles go after one of the better underrated run-stopping DEs in the league. He was highly touted by his teammate Richard Seymour as one of the best run-stopping DEs in the NFL. This move provides depth at DE, and gives the Eagles a player who can rotate consistently at the DE spot on running downs.)
S Pat Chung 3 yrs/$9 million (Let's be honest. Jairus Byrd and Dashon Goldson are not going anywhere. Their respective teams have every intention of resigning them, because you do not let young and talented safeties test the FA market. Chung is a low risk-high reward type signing. If he can stay healthy, he's better than any safety the Eagles fielded last season. Chip Kelly as his head coach and a change of scenery may also help to motivate the young man.)
S Kenny Phillips 4yrs/$24 million (The Giants let a good one slip away as they put their eggs in the basket of emerging talent Stevie Brown, who many think will take Phillips place in 2013. The Eagles jump at the thought of stealing a quality starting safety away from their NFC East rival. Phillips can still be a premier talent, and would be a welcomed addition in Philly)
2013 DRAFT
1) Reid shocks everyone by passing up on a QB with the #1 overall pick and instead drafting Luke Joeckel. Geno Smith falls to Philly at the 4 spot and Buffalo rings the phone off the hook to move up and draft him here. The Eagles trade this pick to Buffalo, and the Bills get their new franchise QB. They surrender the 8th overall pick and their 2nd round pick to move up.
With the 8th pick of the 2013 draft, the Eagles select....
Dee Milliner, CB Alabama
Millner falls to the Eagles at 8 and has the tools/talent to start from Day 1, with the potential to become a lockdown corner for years to come.
2) Jordan Poyer, CB Oregon State
Milliner and Poyer combine to form a formidable, young force at the cornerback position for years to come
2) {From Buffalo} Eric Reid, S LSU
Reid comes in and competes with Nate Allen and Pat Chung for the starting job opposite Kenny Phillips.
3) Oday Aboushi, OT Virginia
Absoushi provides quality depth at the tackle position and could be a future starter on the line.
4) Jordan Hill, DT Penn State
Replaces Derek Landri on the roster and becomes a quality player in the DT rotation.
5) Devin Taylor, DE South Carolina
6) Jeff Baca, OG UCLA
7) Rodney Smith, WR Florida State
7) Branden Smith, CB Georgia

Yes their is some inherit risk with going that route, but I think both players have the potential to be great starters in this league for years to come. Year 1 will be a learning curve of course, but the team is in full rebuild mode and that puts less pressure on those two to excel immediately. They take their lumps the first year, but in doing so, have suddenly revamped the position for the next half decade.

Cherilus would be a great acquisition for the Eagles. He is a proven talent, and would anchor the RT position for the next 4 years. Phillips is young as well and would infuse alot of talent at the S position. I think the Eagles will miss out on Vaccaro and Elam, so drafting Reid and pairing him with Phillips could be very rewarding for the Eagles secondary. Chung could be a solid backup and rotational safety, and Shaughnessy would replace Tapp on the roster, and contribute in the DE rotation.
If I were in the Eagles war room, my strategy would be to rebuild the secondary in this draft. The talent pool is there this year to feel safe making your first three picks for the secondary. Next year, the Eagles can address OL or other weak areas on the team.

Exactly. That experiment was a disaster. Blow it up, and put your 'chips' in the rookies hands. Milliner and Poyer could be a great pair for years to come. Now that doesn't mean it will happen immediately (although with their talent it could), but they have the potential to be stars in the NFL. Naturally gifted athletes. Let them learn on the job.
Pair them with an improved safety core of Phillips, Chung, and Reid, and the Eagles will be on the right track to turning their abysmal secondary around.

With this strategy, the Eagles could rebuild the secondary real quick and with great talent and potential. This is the year to draft secondary, the depth and talent is unbelievable.
Rodney Smith is a sleeper pick. He's the kind of late-round pick that could sneak onto the Eagles roster, maybe challenge Damaris Johnson for a roster spot.

I agree this is the year for secondary.. would be a dream come true if we got those picks (sorta)
but id also like damaris johnson to stay on the roster, he was a big time player for our offense this year

Think I'm going to try another one, with a similar approach but with different moves and draft picks.

Well, from what the OP said and my own mock draft, the top 8 should look something like this:
1. Chiefs: Luke Joeckel (OT)
2. Jaguars: Bjoern Werner (DE)
3. Raiders: Star Lotulelei (DT)
4. Bills (from PHI): Geno Smith (QB)
5. Lions: Damontre Moore (DE)
6. Browns: Jarvis Jones (OLB)
7. Cardinals: Eric Fisher (OT)
8. Eagles: Dee Milliner (CB)
and then, skip down to the second round (the only other CB I have going in the first is Johnthan Banks at #13 to the Bucs) we see this:
33: Jaguars: Matt Barkley (QB)
34. Chiefs: Tyler Wilson (QB)
35. Eagles: Xavier Rhodes (CB)
I doubt everyone will agree on where players go, but that would be my mock if the trade happens.

ya sorry no that wont happen... Milliner, Banks, Rhodes and even Trufant are all projected to go in the 1st round so we wont be getting Rhodes in the 2nd

- Chung has never been able to stay healthy as a starter and Phillips has missed considerable time with what is considered a degenerative knee. I know almost every safety in free agency has an injury concern, but these two worry me the most.
- Cutting Aso is a tough pill to swallow. I'd rather restructure him. Your plan has us entirely switching out our starters. Personally I really dislike DRC and I'm not fond of our safeties, but letting everyone go just seems drastic. Give Aso more reliable teammates and see if he can return to probowl form.
