Much has been made of the fact that $3 million of Mike Vick's $16.5 million deal with the Eagles becomes guaranteed if he is on their roster come Feb. 6, but sources said that issue is not a concern at this time, and it's unlikely Vick's contract will be resolved before then.

New coach Chip Kelly is evaluating the situation and how Vick fits in his spread offense. The Eagles are determining how much they might be willing to pay Vick, if they do ask him to take a pay cut. Vick will not absorb any significant salary cut to remain with the Eagles, sources said, but there could be some wiggle room to work something out.

Neither side is being hasty in forcing a conclusion, and the Eagles still could wind up dealing Vick, for instance, once the league year begins March 13. They are not allowed to complete a trade before the Feb. 6 deadline.

I would not be surprised to see Vick under center this year.  At this point, I don't see what else they could do.  I don't think he wants Foles long-term, so he's probably willing to start with Vick and draft a guy.  If Vick underperforms, they blame him and bench him.

Take it easy there I wouldn't go pinning my hope and dreams on Confora statement that says the eagles are going pay vick 3 mil while they wait and see how much there willing to pay him knowing full well vick isn't taking a significant cut.  That doesn't make any sense at all.

he also says there is some wiggle room

chip wants to see what vick will look like in his system.....

It doesn't surprise me that they would pay him the $3 million, if only to buy themselves some time ... I still don't think he will be the starter here next season.

again what teams do you see being interested in giving up draft picks for vick?

all i heard on this board was how horrible vick was for the last 3 months and now he has NFL trade value?

well if its true Andy never wanted him in the first place then count KC out.  If it isn't then count them in.

Vick is not some rookie there is plenty of game film on him if chip wants to see what kinda player he is he can pop on the tape (hopefully he's draft prepping now not watching vick)

The Eagles clearly have Vick in their plans. There's no other reason to guarantee him 3 mil otherwise. They would not pick up his guarantee for the chance to trade him for a 7th rounder or so. I also don't think this is because Kelly wants to see what Vick can do on the field before making a decision. Kelly has 15 years worth of tape on Vick to know if he would fit into Kelly's system. It's becoming more clear that kelly does not want Foles as the qb of his system so he will have Vick be the qb this year while drafting a geno smith/ ej manuel type to mold into the qb of the future.

Spadaro brought up the point on eagles live and you know it wasn't from him.

There is offset language in Vick's contract so if they cut him later then they'd really only owe him any money below 3 million that the other team paid him.  So if Vick got a 2 million contract from another team they'd only owe a million to vick

According to Jeff McLane, Vick's contract has offset language. Meaning that he is guaranteed $3M if we release him after Feb 6 but that any amount he makes from a new team will count against that $3M. He's pretty much guaranteed to make at least that amount with a new team so for all intents and purposes there is no reason to not keep him beyond February 6. That clause greatly increases the Eagles' leverage in renegotiating and/or trading him.

i believe that but i still believe chip wants competition

comp brings out the best in players

at the same time i think vick will win that comp

Why do people keep saying this? There is no system right now. Chip has said numerous times already he will run a scheme according to what he has on the roster. He has said numerous times he isn't running his exact Oregon offense. Bottom line, there is no scheme as of right now, so this statement doesn't make  any sense at all.

Because confora said in his piece chip is running the spread.  Which is how I know confora is full of ish.  I don't even think chip knows what he's running yet.

Chip has an idea of the offense he wants to run....maybe not play by play but he has a general idea

he likely went over this general idea with vick when he met with him and foles when he spoke with him

3 mill in the NFL is pocket change.
This makes total business sense.
Let Kelly and his staff get in and evaluate the situation (they could save time and money by just having TATE do it for them, but you know how it goes...) then make the most important decision they have to make this off-season.

i dont understand why do you love vick so much, you dont care if he throws more turnovers? dont give me this a better offensive line crap, the team didnt want to play for him, i mean god, what is going to take for you to get it? he's not the answer, he's not a good player and teams know how to stop him, with foles i think this team has a better chance at least, it's not fair for him because the whole team played like crap.

yo its funny it does not matter who our qb is its only until the next one is groomed. Vick will be the starter foles will go to andy for a 2nd or a 3rd rd pick period. We will draft and pick up qb #2 and 3 thats it, its not rocket science but all the vick haters are going to say im a vick lover or im on his nuts or whatever but the bottom line is, it just common sense, and hes our best option. This is a weak draft and a weak qb FA year.

this is an easy decision really. they will start vick and draft a guy. i said at first i could tell the way CK was talking about foles like he was about to be released obviously foles wont be released but its how they talk about players they dont want
