I'm sure it has been discussed here already, but I'm not reading through 11 pages to find it. I just watched Eagles Live from last week, Dave mentioned that if we pay the $3 Million (which is likely) and then cut Vick, then another team signs him to a $2.5 Million contract, the Eagles only take a $500,000 hit. Not $3 Million. If someone signs him for $3,000,000.01 then the Eagles aren't on the hook for anything at all.

Is that accurate? If so, then it's a no brainer to let the $3 Million "deadline" pass with no action.

That's 100% true. And with that scenario it seems like a better option than just releasing him before 2/6/2013 because we would take a cap hit. Assuming Vick is not in our plans (i hope not) I could see us trying to trade him. Vick will go somewhere and restructure......if someone signs him for 1.8 million then were still only on the hook for 1.2 million.....that doesn't seem all that bad considering the cap hit we would take for releasing him.

Trust me I want Vick gone as well, but this team is now the property of Chip Kelly. Lurie is not having a say in the Vick situation, at least I wouldn't think. Roseman/Kelly are in charge of making that decision, not Lurie.

The fact of the matter is that Vick is not our guy moving forward, he is not our answer at QB for years to come with a new HC. Foles may not be either, unless Foles has a strong 2013 year with Kelly, he is not our long term answer either. Kelly SHOULD know by now that our long term answer at QB is most likely in the 2014 draft. With that being said bringing Vick back makes no sense, no sense at all, especially with the money he is due. Get rid of Vick and let him be someone else's problem, Vick is not the answer for us moving forward, therefore he does not need to be here in 2013.

I agree 100%, Vick isn't healthy enough to be a starter  and he will be gone unless he takes a huge 10 million dollar pay cut, which he will be taking no matter where he goes. The Eagles are the property of Jeff and his ex I thought.

Caplan said that we couldn't trade Vick, so I assumed that to mean that we'd take a bigger cap hit for a trade than to cut him and let another team sign him and thereby reducing our cap hit.

So the only consideration in trading him would be, what would we get in return? For it to be worth the cap hit, it would probably need to be a 4th rounder or higher. An Asante Samuel type trade, a 7th rounder, wouldn't really be worth it.

UNless you can get Vick to restructure first........ might be a tough sell, but if you can restructure him, you then can look for trade value.  DOnt know how much of a chance that is ... but.... stranger things have happened

I really don't see any trades happening, I think he either restructures to stay or he doesn't and ends up being released. The only question is, how much of a hit our cap will take when all is said and done.

why would a team sign him for 1.8? They could get Vick for the league minimum and let the Eagles foot the rest of the 3 million dollar bill. Vick won't care bc he'll get his 3 million regardless.

Take it for what is worth, but John Clayton just reported on Mike and Mike that Vick will likely be cut on Friday. That the hold up was caused by Kelly's focus on finding a DC.

Meaning that he finally found one? The plot thickens!

I'm not sure that makes much sense though, considering that it's just 2 days after the "supposed" deadline. If they were gonna cut him, it would happen today or tomorrow. If he's still here after the 6th, then i'm thinking he'll be here at least until shortly before the first OTA/mini-camp.

The idea being, Chip has spent so much time looking for a DC that he hasn't had the chance to really sit down and review whether Vick is worth keeping (at the contract rate, at a lower rate, etc.).

I get the idea, i just dont think it makes a lot of sense. The $3M number surely had to have been mentioned to him by now and as a coach/GM, you don't just blindly hope that another team will sign him to an amount that high without first considering if he's good enough to even be on your own roster.

In other words, if Chip is just now beginning to think he's too crappy of a QB to be on the 4th worst team in the league, is he really banking on the possibility (however likely) that one of the other awful teams will sign him to a $3M contract so that we don't have to cut a paycheck?

Remember that the coach/GM role is not the responsibility of a sole individual as it was in years past. Surely Howie would've found some time to sit down with Chip and figure out what their gameplan is for the situation. Nobody's too busy to decide what action to take on a $3M contract bonus.

A source tells Phillymag.com that Michael Vick "came away very high" on Chip Kelly following a couple meetings.

By the end of last season's debacle, Vick sounded like a man ready to move on from Philadelphia. But after talking to Kelly, he's changing his tune. Perhaps he's even willing to accept a major slash in pay, especially after he realizes his market value will be lukewarm. All Kelly has said is that he "really liked his meeting with Michael," declining to give any hints as to his plans for the quarterback position. Kelly's decision between Vick, Nick Foles and possible outside reinforcements will be one of fantasy's biggest storylines over the next 2-3 months.

Almost doesn't make sense - if they know they are going to cut him, why wait ... especially with tomorrow's deadline in guaranteeing him $3M.

But I sure hope it's right.
