Is that the Eagles will finally pay more attention on the quality of their LBers. Sad that a franchise who has great pride at that position ie Bednarik, Bergey, Joyner, Trot & a shout out to Byron Evans let that position slip during the Reid Era. If you look at all great SB teams they all had superb LB play - '85, Bears, '86 Giants '00 Ravens '02 Bucs.... Look at 9ers and the Ravens now - GREAT LBers...... Finally

I HOPE the Eagles finally pay attention to the quality of the LBs.  Maybe with a new philosophy, things will change.  I hope so.

This has nothing to do with the change in philosophy. It has everything do to with the change in head coaches. Reid didn't think LBs were important, and thus never paid top dollar for one. That was the problem. If the Eagles ran the 3-4 while he was here, he would've skimped on the ILBs as it's the OLBs who create the pass rush.

Every team you listed didn't run a 3-4 scheme.

That wasn't the point- point was that since the system relies on great LB play maybe we won't skimp

4-3 requires great D-line
3-4 requires great LBs

You can get away with lesser players at the other position but you can't completely ignore it which was the problem under Reid.  You need at least one special player at the less important level.  Of course more is better but 1 is probably bare minimum.

I am sure they will.  Chip Kelley is a real coach.  I am sure he will have all of his bases covered.  I don't think we will ever hear him say "WE ARE FINE THERE"  when they are clearly not.  :-)

That would definitely be a refreshing change.  I'm looking forward to seeing what he does and brings.

Not hearing "we're fine there," "I have to do a better job," and "time's yours" will be one of the best things about this season for me.

It was downright criminal what Andy Reid did to the LB position during his time here.

For me it will be nice to see a coach of men that are in top physical condition not look like he's a cheesburger from a heart attack.

The negative side is sometimes the coach never survives the transition.

Yeah, but point was the change in scheme doesn't really matter as Chip is Andy, and will probably value the linebacker position regardless of our alignment.

Also, the 3-4 doesn't rely on great linebacker play any more then the 4-3. Realize that with the 3-4, you have the less traditional linebacker types. The OLB are your edge rushers in the 3-4.
