I actually thought about this and since the Kaepernick taking over I said he might be a good fit in Philly next year.   Guess we will see what happens, but I wouldn't mind.  THe guy has busted his butt to finally get to the point he's at playing his best ball, then gets benched.   I mean Harbough made the right choice, obviously, but still the kid hopefully has progressed and isn't just a product of the Harbough system.    Time will tell.   I look forward to the offseason though, I'm ready to see some solid building.

It was a joke... relax!

I'm very relaxed, but thank you for your concern.  You can never tell on here though.  A lot of people are serious about a lot of stupid comments.

The 49ers are not about to pay a backup 9 mil dollars, they is not smart.  To be honest Alex Smith is an average QB.  The 49ers are so good, they were able to hide him.  Kaepernick has taken the offense to a new level.  Alex SMith plays conservative and not to lose.  I hope the Eagles dont pick him.

Look at their numbers, Smith was more accurate as a passer and had a better overall QB rating, Kaepernick is 2010 Vick,

49ers will trade away Smith and then Kaepernick will get found out.

Anyone who hates this as a year or two stopgap until we draft the next prototype for this system is an idiot.

So if Alex Smith demands $10 million a year, you're still ok with this?

Let's not jump to the idiot bandwagon so fast.  There is something known as context

I've said it for a while now.  I can easily see this happening and feel it will. We need an NFL starter to come in and push Nick Foles to see if he can reach the next level. I see Smith as the perfect fit for that.
I agree. I have been saying this or over a month now. I knew Smith would want his release from the 9ers. We should make heavy dibs to get him. He's angry, wants to win big, and has a lot to prove. Keep him in the NFC, and let him get his revenge under out flag, and take us to the bowl. I hope we make a valiant effort to bring him here. I'll take him before Foles and Vick any day.

I'm on the Alex Smith bandwagon. Make it so.
I concur. I'm on it heavy. I'd touch his D if he came here. I'd be ecstatic.

Foles rookie year>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Smith's first what, 5 years?

I'm just not an Alex Smith guy. He couldn't do **** until his team was absolutely LOADED and even then was only doing so in a somewhat limited role.

My issue wouldn't be bringing him here per say, it would be giving up whatever we would to get him while we're rebuilding around completely new philosophies on both sides of the ball. We need those picks.

Philly fans are gluttons for punishment.  Some of you are excited about a move like this?   For a nothing, a nobody.  A bust, a bum.

His coach threw him out the first chance he got for a middle round 2nd year player.  He couldnt wait  to get the guy out of the lineup.

This guy has 44 TDs in the last three years COMBINED.  He is on his very best day a game manager that defines the term injury prone.

If this happens it would tell me to forget about Kelly winning anything.  It would show that his judgement is questionable at best.  Different coach, same bull.

49ers will cut him if no one gives up picks out of respect the player.

ESPN's Adam Schefter confirms the 49ers will attempt to trade Alex Smith before granting him his release.

NFL.com and the Santa Rosa Press Democrat both reported as much last week. However, coach Jim Harbaugh insists the 49ers will "absolutely" consider Smith's wishes when deciding his future. Schefter also confirms the Browns and Chiefs as possible Smith destinations. Smith's $8.5 million 2013 salary will complicate any potential trade, while teams may not be willing to surrender more than a fourth- or fifth-round pick.

If Kelly wants a relatively athletic QB (not necessarily a running QB), then Foles isn't going to work. Alex Smith is a blend of the two. Not saying he is the answer, but he is certainly more mobile than Foles. He also seems to be reaching his peak and has playoff experience.

It all boils down to the type of offense Kelly wants, and NONE of us know what he is planning. He may not even know what he wants to run yet.

Isn't he kind of dumb?

From Wiki:

Quote

Smith earned a bachelor's degree in economics in two years[4] with a 3.74 GPA,[5] having matriculated with 64 credit hours,[6] and began work on a master's degree in the field before being drafted.[5]

Can't be that dumb.

He's a WCO QB, Reid is a WCO coach and a so-called Qb expert. My guess he goes to KC, Banner isn't going to pay him and that place is least attractive, he won't want to go somewhere where he'll be competing for a job and where he'll be running a new age offense (here).

Banner might get overruled by Haslem on how much $ to throw at Smith....and it would take alot obviously.  But Haslem is determined to quickly make the Browns competitive and they cant get there with Weeden or Colt McCoy.  Moneys still on KC tho.
