My god the hatred for those halftime shows has gone haywire. I don't remember people moaning about them this much in the 90's.

The SB has long ago gone well beyond just being the NFL's renamed Championship game to a 2-week long, full blown, multi-media  spectacle so there will definitely be some non-sports-related form of halftime entertainment.  

While the logistical issues of trying to stage an outdoor show in nth jersey in February almost certainly eliminate that option, they'll probably just replace it with a simulcast indoor show, but the likelyhood that they do nothing more than have the Fox commentators rehash the 1st half seems remote at best.

To me halftime is for a bathroom brake , refill on both food and drink period.

What was it about Beyonce's halftime show that sucked SOOOO much? Please pinpoint it to me. It's pretty much an 8 minute concert, does that bother you THAT much?


I like the fact that I can take a nice break in the middle of the Super Bowl. Hit the toilet and break my seal, refill on the food and drinks, give the ladies their dose of Super Bowl fever by watching the actual show and then we're back to normal. No big deal at all.

Haven't you heard? The NFL didn't exist until recently...

That aside, your experience in the 90's would be more limited to your own small sphere of existence if you weren't connected to all of the places that you are now.

Personally, I've heard people complain about the halftime shows for decades. My mother wants "Up With People" back, for instance.

The last few halftime shows have been complete ish. I would rather see them do what they did when halftime shows first started, use marching bands. Take some of the best college bands in the nation (like FAMU) and have them compete. Then we'll see some real talent as opposed to some autotuned nonsense.

Gotta agree with you here. I'm not even a fan of her music or that genre but the show was actually quite amazing and I typically use it for the same things you mentioned.

The league knows that the Super Bowl isn't just for football purists, it's a worldwide spectacle and they're going to cater the halftime show for as wide an audience as they can. It's not hard to understand that.

With the abilities of HD signals, they ought to give different options. Let the viewers opt for what they want to see. Some ish singer pretending to sing on channel 3-1 or analysts discussing the game and showing highlights on channel 3-2.

For that matter, I really wish they'd give multiple audio options too. Watch the games (all NFL games) with the network boobs on channel 3-1 or watch it on 3-2 with the home team radio broadcast audio, channel 3-3 with the away team radio broadcast audio.
