Alex Collins' mom runs off with letter of intent, refuses to let running back recruit sign with Arkansas

1:35 Update: There may soon be a resolution to this story if Collins can track down his dad and have him sign the letter of intent to Arkansas.

12:40 Update: Corey Long reported on ESPN that Collins' mom has upstaged his signing ceremony and is refusing to let him sign his letter of intent to Arkansas. In fact, she cannot even be found.

"The papers are not there. I've been told by two different sources that Alex Collins' mom confiscated the papers and took off and ran with them. They are looking for her currently. From what I understand, Alex is not at the school right now, he is looking for his mom. She was quite torn up about him leaving."

Original: On Monday evening, Alex Collins chose the Arkansas Razorbacks. Collins is one of the highest rated recruits in the country, a five-star running back out of Ft. Lauderdale (Fla.) South Plantation High School.

But not everyone was happy that Collins chose Arkansas over the hometown Miami Hurricanes.

In particularly, Collins' mom was rumored to be unhappy with his choice. Collins had a hard upbringing and doesn't live with his mom, but instead with his coach Doug Gatewood. But mommas are still mommas, and Collins' was known to be strongly in favor of him staying home and signing with the Miami Hurricanes.

To be fair, have you been to Arkansas?  Thats just good parenting.

The entire family wants him to stay at Miami.  I've heard various reports saying that he's being pushed to Arkansas by his Coach, who could possibly have a job on the line at Arkansas.  I believe Miami has 1 or 2 spots left open, should he flip back to Miami.

Not the first time this has happened to the Hogs... Mitch Mustain's mommy got in his head after his first year in Arkansas where he played pretty lousy and essentially brainwashed him to transfer to USC where he never even got to take a snap.

He went from the top QB recruit in the nation to being completely out of football because his mommy thought it was the best thing to do.

Didn't Mustain partially go to Arkansas because his Coach got a job there?

The kid's mom can't be trusted to care for him.  Yet, she is the one holding up his college decision?  Maybe he wants to go to Arkansas because it is NOT close to home.

If the coach is pushing him somewhere in order to get a better job that is equally sad.

What do you think of Al Golden signing Augustus Edwards dude? I've seen you be pretty objective sometimes and that has to piss you off.

From everything I have seen Coach Coley was recruiting him to FSU,  sees him as a James Wilder Jr. type back.  A big FB/RB combo who will be a good partner with Duke Johnson down the road now that Coley is at Miami.

I know that Miami wanted to add 1-2 backs.  They were hoping to get Alex Collins, and add bigger complementary back.  Alex Collins didn't work out, but they were still able to bring in that bigger back.  I don't know much about him, as he wasn't on the Miami radar very long.  Looking at his list of offers, he has a bunch of schools that are good schools and not total crap.

What I do like is how Al Golden is reaching up into the Northeast to recruit and sign players.  There is a ton of talent up here, and it's great to see him extending that reach for Miami.  Too many Miami fans are adamant that Miami only needs South Florida kids, when in reality you need to recruit multiple areas.  The South Florida kids are great, but for the vast majority they're the speed kid, the athleticism is off the charts.  You need to go elsewhere to get some of those grinders.

Alex Collins signed with Arkansas today. His mom will not take this lying down (insert joke here) and is trying to sue.

She isn't bringing a lawsuit.  She did meet with legal counsel to make sure that everything with his Arkansas recruitment was 100% legal, and that his coach isn't getting any special favors or treatment from Arkansas.  He had his Father, who has hasn't had contact with in years, sign his National Letter of Intent for Arkansas today.

I honestly think the family was promised some favors if the kid signed with Miami.

That isn't the case.  The family can't afford to travel to Arkansas to see him play, which is why they wanted him to stay home.  There are numerous reports that his HS Coach was promised favors from Arkansas if he signed.

BTW - A Razorback is basically a pig with a mohawk, right?
Can we call them the "Mohawk Pigs?"

I was referring to him being widely accused of pushing a girl to commit suicide this season after group sex/rape and then bullying.

Weird story.
