This was always the worry with Kelly

But wasn't this the worry? That Kelly would have no connections and not be able to sign a great DC? This was my concern all along about Kelly, not the offense but the defense.
I've gotta admit, I was hoping for someone a bit more impressive because I think this defense is bad. Let's hope he's better than his previous attempts at DC.

Give me a break. The hate for Howie is unreal on these boards, when he got Kelly he was a god and now it's all his fault. Do you have any proof at all?
The only thing I can think of is that he runs a 3-4 and so did Kelly? Wheres the Howie link?

I wanted a defensive team... we could find an offensive coordinator out there who can get the job done.
That isn't the case on the defensive side of the ball. Now we better hope we score 40 ppg

Dont worry, most of us here wanted him including me. He went to the Jags of all the teams too.

I never said he was a god when he got Kelly, I didn't personally even want Chip Kelly I wanted Gus Bradley or Lovie Smith. But once he was hired I got behind him and hoped it would work out, I figured a guy who Bill Bellichick took advice from couldn't be to bad.
And I don't understand people who are puzzled by dislike of Howie Roseman, the team has gotten steadily worse since he took over as GM and he had no qualifications for the job in the first place.
The Eagles are likely going to be laughinstocks until Lurie figures out its a mistake to let accountants run your football team. Why he does it is beyond me. What was the point of getting rid of Joe Banner if you replace him with Joe Banner Jr.?

- He helped guide safety Adrian Wilson to Pro Bowl selections in 2009 and 2010 and defensive tackle Darnell Dockett, Antrel Rolle and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie to the honor in 2009.
- In Davis’ first year as defensive coordinator, his unit allowed 325 points, the fifth-lowest total for the franchise since the NFL went to a 16-game schedule in 1978. The Cardinals also tallied 21 interceptions, the team’s highest figure since 1994.
- From 2005-06, Davis served as the defensive coordinator with the San Francisco 49ers. Under Davis’ tutelage, cornerback Walt Harris tied for the NFC lead with eight interceptions en route to the only Pro Bowl selection of his 13-year career.
- Davis joined San Francisco after completing one season (2004) as linebackers coach for the New York Giants.
- Prior to that, Davis spent the previous three campaigns as the Atlanta Falcons’ linebackers coach. During that span, linebacker Keith Brooking was selected to the Pro Bowl in each of his three seasons under Davis.
- Before his stint in Atlanta, Davis spent one season with the Green Bay Packers (2000) as defensive assistant/defensive line coach and one season with the Browns (1999) as defensive quality control coach.
- In 1995, Davis began a four-year stretch as the outside linebackers coach with the Carolina Panthers. In 1996, linebackers Kevin Greene and Lamar Lathon finished first and second in the NFL in sacks, with 14.5 and 13.5, respectively, as the Panthers advanced to the NFC Championship Game. Both players were selected to the NFC Pro Bowl squad that year.
- Davis’ first NFL coaching position came in 1992 with the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he worked as a defensive quality control coach. He remained on Bill Cowher’s staff for two more seasons, serving as the defensive quality control coach and assisting with the linebackers.

If some fans have concerns about the Eagles defensive coaches, I'd say they should. One thing is for sure the Eagles should have the lowest paid defensive staff in the NFL.

Sounds like a guy who is good with players but terrible with schemes and running a unit as a whole. And we hired him for the ladder.
You don't hire a good technician to run a company.

I need to grow up for telling the truth?
I just don't get why you repeatedly defend a guy whose done nothing except preside over a steadily declining franchise. No, its true that he is not the sole culprit for it, but he sure hasn't helped anything either. And its hard to give him the benefit of the doubt when he had no real qualifications for the job in the first place.

We interviewed Bill Davis 2 weeks ago and just now give him the job! Obviously not first choice. I guess permission wasn't granted for other candidates!
Scheme wise he basically runs a 3-4 that resembles a 4-3. Which fits our personnel, I hope! He hasn't had much success in his other DC jobs but there are plenty of examples of coaches in their 3rd or 4th stint that finally put everything together. He does employ an attacking D that is good around the Red Zone and creates turnovers when needed.
Wonder what happened with Todd Granthem as DC? He seemed to be the odds on favorite and had NFL experience. Weird!
