Not that long ago, the Eagles were considered a low end team in the NFL.  Vince Lombardi was talked out of coming here because the ownership was bad.  Remember Jerry Wolman - bankruptcy?   How bout Leonard Tose, compulsive gambler.  Braman - couldn't get along with anyone.

And the early Lurie years - Kotite, some bad Rhodes years, the Vet.  But now don't you get a different vibe from the team?  It's a destination place.  The Eagles are a team that blue chip personnel and coaching types want to come to.  They've become more Hollywood to in their own way.  First Chip, now Gamble.  And both of these guys came here to be here - they're not settling.

My interest is piqued.

If we win a couple Lombardi's then yes.  Until then we'll never be elite, but yes things are much, much better since the 20th century.

Don't let the smoke and mirrors fool you. Nothing is a good move unless its been proven other wise ("Dream Team"). For all we know these guys could be a product of their own system like some big FA players. They end up getting a big deal and end up being **** (Nnamdi).

I don't disagree but don't really agree either. Braman would be the first to tell you he only cared about ticket sales and the product itself meant nothing beyond that. I think several past owners really did care though.

I think right now you might just be feeling a bit optimistic because of the recent changes in coaching.

Ahhhhh, the Eagles have been considered 1 of the best run organizations not only in the NFL but in all of professional sports since about 2000.
Where the hell have you been ??
Now granted, lots of goofy hometown fans are clueless to this, but outside of Philly they are absolutely considered 1 of the class organizations in the NFL.

But it was basically linked to Reid. (and on field success)

The past few years we are turning back into one of the bad franchises.

Leonard Tose was beloved by Philly, was he not?  He was a sad man, but a good owner.

As for Chip Kelly wanting to come here?  Not settling?  Let's wait to see what happens to Oregon first?  If they get hit with sanctions, then you can probably guess that he needed to go somewhere.  He'll have "settled" for the highest offer.

Sounded like he was comparing the recent era (since Lurie bought the team) to earlier years under previous owners.

Leonard Tose tried. He did what he could but he had his issues and in the end that hurt him and forced him to sell the team. Braman really wanted to own the team for the sake of owning it. He didn't care about the on field product. He didn't care about trying to build a championship team. He wanted to be a guy that could say I own an NFL team. That was evident when in the first year of free agency, as we know it now, when he was willing to let everybody that was eligible for free agency go elsewhere. I don't believe the team ever recovered from losing some of those guys. Who knows how things would've turned out for them?

When Jeff Lurie bought the team, it was refreshing for the fans because changes were guaranteed to be made. Braman was gone. Gone were the days of the owner who really didn't care. Gone was the owner that had no desire to really build a championship contender. Lurie has taken steps to change the culture of the team and build a championship team when he's made changes. When he brought in Ray Rhodes, he looked to the first franchise to win 5 Super Bowls and brought in a coach who was there for all 5. On the surface it looked like a smart move but Rhodes quickly proved to be in over his head. He went with Reid who coached with Green Bay when they made their 2 Super Bowl appearances and it was working out for a while but then Reid's system was figured out and he didn't adjust and things just got stale.

Now that Lurie's looking to go with Chip Kelly (who's regarded as an innovator), let's see what happens. So far the Eagles have made a couple moves that shows things may be changing again. I like that the position coaches are guys that are teachers and they're guys who stress fundamentals, technique, and the basics. I'm fine with that. I like that they brought back Tom Gamble who'd been a GM candidate around the league and is coming in to be another voice for the personnel department.

This thread makes me want to go out and buy a new Vick jersey for every day of the week. What ever money I have left over I'll just stick in an envelope and send to the Novacare CO Jeffrie Laurie.

Life is good when you're an Eagles fan.

Alhtough I am glad they are both gone, we have Banner and Reid to thank for that ... Banner got the Linc & NovaCare complex built & Reid made the team a perennial contender.  Lurie, although often accused of being cheap, isn't afraid to write a big check.

Tell you what - it may work, it may not, but the Eagles are propping Chip up with everything they can to put him in a position to win.  Hoping the personnel department steps it a notch under the new regime.  I'm already encouraged when I hear the team will be looking for longer linebackers.  These midget men were getting to me.

I still want our next stadium to be a futuristic throwback, AKA, make the seating layout similar to the vet, but more of a oval than the other one was to give it more room. We need to bring back the fear, even with our increased standing, our new stadium sucks.

The current stadium is only like 10 years old... don't expect to see a new one for a long, long time.
