Chad Lewis.  And the sad thing is that we didn't have him for the SB.  He got injured at the end of the NFCCG.  Who knows, maybe the SB turns out differently if we don't have that injury.
The dreaded lis franc injury.

I liked Havili a lot this year, he was playing quite well, so naturally, Reid stopped using him almost entirely. But I like, and prefer, the H-Back over FB in todays NFL. I think Harbor will be tried at that spot. I like Igwenagu a lot too, I think he could play that spot.

EIfert had a really good day at the combine...wouldn't mind him on this team

This was bad news for us. He was obviously the best tight end in this class. When people started throwing other names out there as possibly being better I thought that Eifert could possibly fall to the Eagles in the second round. That's not going to happen now.

Eifert is definitely a first round. Ertz might be too. Latest Ertz will go is early 2nd.

nothing is definite. Teams purposely don't go TE in the first no matter how good they are. I wouldn't be surprised if both are gone in the first...but I won't be surprised if neither are.

Usually the top TE goes in the 20-30 range.  The special athletes with college production (Davis, Winslow) can go in the top 10... but they've got to have WR level speed.

That's actually not statistically true at all. Typically the top TE had gone between 30 and 40. Having said that though the league's view on TEs is changing which could change draft worth of those top guys.

I think this draft is going to produce several high quality starting TE's.  I don't think I see ANY playmakers in this bunch though.

Granted, I'm not exactly venturing out on a limb.  There aren't many playmaking TE's in the entire NFL, maybe 3.  Still, I don't think any of these guys quite have that level of athleticism or explosion.  Lots of good prospects, no weapons.

Yah Davis ran a 4.38 so he's a different story.  If we r really getting rid of the fb I would like to see igwenagu in the hback role I also like gragg in this years draft for that role.  He ran a 4.4 so he has the speed to stretch the field vertically ran the drills nicely caught the ball fluidly and mayock said he thinks he can be a very good h back and that's good enough for me.  If he can turn into someone like walker I'd b happy.  Not to mention he wouldn't be a first or second round pick like ertz, eiffert or, Escobar.  Tiollo in the 6th wouldn't b bad either for the red zone weapon.  I didn't see what fauria did yesterday though and I've liked him as a late round guy as well

Eifert is the type of player thats been missing on the team since... idk.. i was going to say TO but wasnt a high point guy more of a run after catch or get open deep for an easy catch type of WR, wow i guess it been sincee kevin curtis since we have had someone who can win jump balls. curtis was shockingly good at that esp for not being over 6 foot lol..

im happy with that...besides weaver we never really utilized the FBs. get in more TEs who can block and catch and line them up in the spot of the FB.

idk about that. They need DL help a lot which is there in the first round without reaching. They can still get a good TE in the 2nd

He said from talking to people around the combine, he got a sense that the Eagles are looking to load up at TE and focus heavily at TE this offseason. He said they could carry as many as 4 or 5 TEs and eliminate the FB position entirely. He said one of Chip's top priorities this offseason is to find a TE that can stretch the field.

Chip wants a TE to be a huge part of the offense like it is in New England.

I haven't agreed with a lot of his moves so far, but I like this. We need to use Celek better. But also get a TE that can stretch the field and create matchup nightmares for defenses. It will keep them honest against the run and give our  playmakers at WR more room to work.

One observation: the new coaching staff carries 2 TE coaches.  The team used to have one TE coach to look after the 3 players on the roster, which is the lightest load for a coach.  One may say that they moved Williams to TE coach is a means to keep him around as the veteran to help the young positional coaches at RB and TE, and also to bridge between the old and new.  This may well be true, but this would also show the hand that they have serious interests in boost up the TE plays.  We shall see how this would unfold during the off-season.

great points. yesterday i talked about in watching vick vs foles the thing i noticed is how god awful the TE blocking was. Especially Clay Harbor.

Rome wasn't built in a day.
Exactly. People need to start getting comfortable with the fact that we aren't going to be all that good this year. We my win a few games here and there but thats it. This is a complete rebuilding process that is going to take probably 3 seasons to be fully complete. Until I see different, I have complete faith in Kelly. seems like he knows what he wants to do and therefore will go after the players that fit just that. Im sure there will be players left on the roster that should he have his choice perhaps wouldnt be but he's got no choice right off the bat. This is going to take a minimum of 2 seasons to start to get the entire roster to where this new regime feels comfortable with it. Year 3 will be adding the final pieces and thats probably when you'll start to see us being realistically more competitive and perhaps included in some post season conversations. Before that, start getting more familiar with the college ranks and selecting higher in the drafts.

We have 2 good TEs who can stretch the field already.  Celek and Harbor are both very good TEs who can block and catch passes.  Harbor just hasn't been given much of a chance to show what he can do.  Why spend big money on a TE when we have much bigger needs?

For a man of his size, Ertz seems to get tackled fairly easily.  Plus, he is a poor blocker.  I think Gavin Escobar is a better prospect.  He doesn't have the top end speed to stretch the field, but he has everything else: Big, great hands, makes plays in traffic, great red zone target.
