good size (6-3 / 214) CB out of Utah (4th year) picked with the second of two second round choices in 2009. http://www.miamidolp...47-3282520dc8b4

started all 16 games last year, 59 tackles (53 solo), 12 passes broken up, 2 picks, 3 forced fumbles.

thats about all i can find

I'm no expert but after watching Hardknocks cover Dolphins, he seemed to be a big physical CB. The Dolphins elected to keep him and trade Vontae Davis (their former 1st rd pick) to the Colts.
He is young and has a nice career ahead of him. He is much better than the garbage we are fielding right now...but that doesn't mean he is a home run. If the price is right I think we would be stupid not to atleast make an effort and get him. But I think he is gonna want top dollar because of his age and starting experience.

Smith is similar to DRC in the regards that, when he wants to play hard, he's very good. He's an excellent tackler too. I think Smith just needs a coach who will stay on him, and I think Chip is that guy. Always been a big Smith fan, also, Clemons too. He's also a Dolphin S, dude can hit.

According to this article http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap1000000140303/article/sean-smith-reportedly-wont-get-miami-dolphins-tag

Sean Smith allowed more first downs and touchdowns than any other corner last year. Hard to believe with Aso on our roster but there ya have it. Still think he has potential because he is young though.

Since DRC is not returning, Smith is the best CB in FA, in my opinion. He's a good physical CB, he's not allergic to contact like Nnamdi, DRC and Asante.

And that video, my friend is a huge Dolphins fan, I remember hiim showing me that 100 times.

Per PFF 2013 FA CB Rankings:

7. Sean Smith
2012 Grade: -3.6
2012 Snaps: 1,068
Summary: Another player with some major consistency problems (are we sensing a trend?), Smith is capable of both great games and awful ones, and his season performance graph looks like a rollercoaster ride. His performances ranged from not allowing a single catch against the Jets in Week 3 despite eight targets to being beaten every time he was targeted in Week 12 against the Seahawks for 72 yards and a score.
Smith brings size (6-foot-4) and the ability to be physical and aggressive, which the Seahawks have just shown the league really can work as a coverage scheme. It’s a copycat league, and there really aren’t many corners of that size and speed around. Smith is one, and might just garner some real interest for that reason as much as his play.

DRC ranked 5th:

5. Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie
2012 Grade: -7.1
2012 Snaps: 1020
Summary: Another player that is nothing if not consistently all over the place in terms of performance, Rodgers-Cromartie has the ability to be one of the league’s better players, but refuses to prove it for more than a game or two at a time. Only four players notched more PDs than DRC last season, and he added another three interceptions, earning him a healthy coverage grade of +2.9 for his season’s work, but the problems are hidden elsewhere.
He had 11 penalties on the season, second among all corners and had one of the league’s poorest run support grades, a list propped up predictably enough by Asante Samuel, with whom DRC shares many of the same traits. The good news for teams is that DRC did grade well overall in coverage terms last season. The bad news is that most of that grade came from five strong games, compared to four that were graded firmly in the red. You’re gambling with talent and upside by signing DRC, but almost certainly buying into inconsistency and frustration at the same time.

Meh, he's okay. Maybe he's better in a different scheme, who knows. He's okay I guess. Doesn't matter who the CBs are though unless they finally get them some actual safeties.

I live in Florida & my brother is a Dolphin's fan so I have gotten to watch quite a bit of Dolphin's games over the years (barf!). Sean Smith is a solid Corner, he's got good size & has alright ball skills. He doesnt have blazing speed but he isent stiff as Asomughwa. I wouldn't mind the pick up really.

sean smith started out at Utah as a receiver and was switched to DB, he played both corner and FS at Utah after a couple of years where he blossomed, he has pretty good hands for a corner and pretty good ball skills, i've seen him make some amazing catches on interceptions in college, he also has good size at 6'4" and good hip flexibility at that size, is pretty fluid for a bigger corner. Wonder if he could play safety in the NFL, watching him at Utah i always thought he was a better FS than a CB.

That would be a nice change of pace for our secondary ...

After the failed Aso and DRC experiments. I'll wait until Smith or any other corner the eagles get perform on the field before I praise the move.

Trying to renegotiate Nnamdi, this gets leaked to Mosher. Do the math. Why do I always have to do the heavy lifting around here?

I've lived in South Florida the las 7 years and watched pretty much every Dolphins game since 06' and trust me you do NOT  want this guy on your team. If you think DRC is inconsistant you haven't seen Sean Smith play. Gets burned a lot. If I'm not mistaken he gave up the most TDs last season.

He reminds me a lot of DRC in terms of he has a lot of potential but very inconsistant. He will play great one game and get raped the next three. Your better off with DRC. Man I will get pissed if we get Smith

Sign Sean Smith, draft a corner in the second round and our CB position is looking alright.  PLEASE let Nnamdi go.

You are so clueless. This is TATE at its best. Lets sign the guy who gave up the most TDs last seasonand that will fix our CB problems. DRC is more consistent than Smith. Tell you what watch the Seattle game alone from last season and tell me if you still want him.

The guy with all the off the field problems? No thanks. There seems to be question marks with many of the top corners in this free agency period though whether it be consistency, effort level, or character. Still of the bunch I would want Smith. Young, king sized corner, who I believe is on the uptick. Re-signing DRC wouldn't be horrible under Bill Davis who got him to play at a pro bowl level, the one I really want out of here is Nmandi.
