I, like many of you, get caught up in this compact 4 day prospect evaluation period that probably really equates to 5-15% of the overall evaluation. Just to add some perspective of all the players that showed up the best combine performer was probably Georgia's LB Cornelius Washington. He measured in at 6'4, 265. Ran an official 4.55, did 36 reps in the bench, jumped 39 (vert) and 128 (board) and had the longest arms by a mile. Of the 4 measurables mentioned he was top in 3 of them and the second fastest LB there. To put that into some perspective for a LB he was bigger, faster, stronger and more explosive than Brian Urlacher in every single category.
There's one problem: He sucks. He was a DE/3-4 OLB all year at Georgia and despite looking like Tarzan he's put forward a Jane type effort on the field. In 4 years 76 total tackles and 10.5 sacks in 4 years... His senior year was particularly horrible.
Anyway, someone will give Washington a look and he probably moved up from a 7th rounder to a 5th. When teams go back and watch the tape he'll probably go back to being a 6th or 7th rounder.
Right now we'll be flooded with drafting guys because of a 40, bench or cone drill. Let's take a step back, take a breath and focus on if they can play football. Ultimately that's what we'll be asking them to do.
Oh The Combine. How I love thee

Some players confirmed they were legit by posting good times/stats like Milliner and Austin so the combine helped them. But totally agree that game tape is the key to drafting.

We often do not agree but in this instance we agree 100%.
