Jury's still out.  Reid's first move is to line up a starting QB for his franchise.  Done.

Way back when, he used his first draft pick on DMac,and that turned out pretty well.  Through the years, QB's have thrived playing under Reid.  If he can get the team's OL squared away, it might turn out to be a good trade for the Chiefs.

Funny, for all the talk how the Eagles raped the Dolphins, Skins and Cards in QB trades, at the end of the day, did the Eagles really land any playmakers in return?

Bottom line, if this guy turns out to be a good starting QB for the Chiefs, it'll be a good trade for the team.

They traded a lot for a QB who has never lived up to his #1 overall pick status. As far as I can tell, Smith isn't really anything than a game manager type of QB. He was playing pretty well last year though but that is with a Super Bowl caliber team that runs the ball a lot. We will see how well he plays throwing the ball 35+ times a game.

In a related note, ESPN just posted an unbelievable fact about the Chiefs. Their last 10 draft picks at QB have not won a single game for them. The last one one to win a game was some guy I never heard of back in 1987.

wasn't he 7-2 as the starter before getting hurt? I'd take the guy in a minute as my QB. The only reason he struggled for so long is because he had to learn a new system every year until Harbaugh came along. Don't forget, Smith also got them one fumble away from the Super Bowl himself, and that fumble had nothing to do with him.

Given AR's "supposed" talent of "developing" young QB's I don't see this working out for the Chiefs or Smith....terrible move by KC

Reid will make him look good. I actually think Alex Smith probably has more physical and mental tools than McNabb, Vick, Garcia, Kolb, Detmer, etc...

In short, Reid is good at getting the most out of his QBs. Last year through starting 9 games Alex Smith had a 109 passer rating. Let's face it, that's not too bad to build off of.

As a side bar issue, what will happen in TATE if Vick/Dixon/Foles are struggling while Smith is having a great year in KC???

Wasn't it was for DRC and a 2nd (which I believe we used to pick Curry).  I thought we traded a 4th rounder and swapped 3rd with Houston and picked Foles) for Ryans and drafted Boykin with the 4th rounder we got from GB.

This is why you are a TATEr.  Did you ever see him play in the years before Harbaugh got there?  He could not win with Gore, Davis, and Crabtree.  It took Harbaugh dumbing down the offense for Smith to be successful.

The issue is the compensation. No one that I read ever expected Smith to get that. Pretty ridiculous. Guy's going to be 29.

The 33rd pick in the draft is basically a 1st rounder. Ridiculous value for a 29 year old quarterback who was absolutely garbage before Harbuagh came along

He won't have the same surrounding cast.  Definitely won't have a coach that protects him with the running game.  Definitely won't have a top 5 defense.  He's trash without all of that.

Alex Smith will succeed in KC if they work to his strengths, and have a solid running game with Charles around him. Too bad they have Reid as the coach and we all know that won't happen!
