New Draft Trade Chart

Recommended Posts

This was in the Philly papers today.... Anybody have a copy of this new chart?

"In the course of the next week, you could see kind of a new chart that people are working off, or that some teams are working off," said Banner, who also said the Eagles think a revised chart circulating through the league "makes a lot more sense."

For those that know the old one here is the pure difference between the old and the new is all in the first round. Here's the first round with the new total points and the difference between the old chart.

Pick-Points+/-Difference

1-2,000 -1000

2-1900 -700

3-1825 -375

4-1750 -50

5-1675 -25

6-1635 +35

7-1570 +70

8-1505 +105

9-1440 +90

10-1375 +75

11-1320 +70

12-1275 +75

13-1230 +80

14-1185 +85

15-1140 +90

16-1110 +110

17-1070 +120

18-1040 +140

19-1010 +135

20-980 +130

21-945 +145

22-920 +140

23-895 +135

24-870 +130

25-845 +125

26-820 +120

27-795 +115

28-770 +110

29-745 +105

30-720 +100

31-695 +95

32-670 +80

Based on that we are in one of the spots that 'gained' the most from the new chart. Of course, not all teams will be on the same page, but it's nice to see that the move didn't hurt us.

Is this based on the big signing bonus for the top-15??

Yep. It focuses around those top 3 picks and how much more guarenteed cash they require to sign. It locks up a chunk of your cap into an unknown player.

All the same it makes it easier to move up.

Well said, nice update. I am psyched for draft day

The problem is that it probably won't be adopted until after the draft. If you think about it there are 10-15 teams that love the new chart because it actually gives them more value from where they are picking (Eagles are included in this group).

Ultimately teams in the 15-25 range can now move up in the top 10 a lot easier. Of course there's another group, specifically the top 3, that based on the new chart have less pure value. Anytime you have this kind of disagreement of value typically things stay the way they are and no trades are done.

Here's how I see it going down

If One of the top 3 teams makes a trade that adheres to the new chart the rest of the board will adopt it for this draft. I don't see anyone in that top 3 being able to make a trade that relates to the old chart, so that probably won't happen. If there isn't any movement from the top 3 there will be very little, if any in the first round.

This is great...

but the real problem is that the top picks are getting too much money. it's not really that great a solution to just make the top picks cost the same in guaranteed money, but worth less in trades.

if they just make the top picks worth less in trades, then the guaranteed money will keep increasing for the top picks until eventually the 10th overall pick is actually worth MORE than the 1st overall pick. that would suck.

until they fix the real root of the problem, which is guys who have never proved themselves in an NFL game getting 30 million dollars guaranteed, it's still going to suck. of course that's all done by negotiations with agents... it's a market-set value. so obviously it's not such a simple problem to fix.

I think the reason for the change is to make those top 3 picks more liquid. Under the old system having a top 3 pick is a curse. You can't trade them at 'fair' value and they require a bunch of guarenteed money. At least this sort of gets back to the players being chosen where teams that are willing to move up and pay those top dollars for top picks can do so without also having to give up everything they have.
