Darrell Green? He only played for the Redskins for about 20 years, then he was forced to escort the Lombardi Trophy to the 'hated Eagles' on world-wide TV lol.

Some comments from Redskins fans around the web, at the time were priceless, too.

I get that the fans hate it, but Green seems like a baby to be mad about it.   Didn't he get a ring with Rypien or whomever in '91?   And I thought the players in this division only hated the Cowboys.  The Eagles have been also-rans for near 60 years and this dude is mad we won it all one freakin' time?

He got a ring in 1987 (with Doug Williams) and another one in 1991.

He also played in his first Super Bowl in his rookie year (1983), but they lost to the Raiders.

These clowns actually hired good coaches. Rivera is still a good HC and great defensive mind. Now they're getting Scott Turner who had to have helped Allen look like a good QB. The only question is how will the owner and gm  f this up?

Rivera is picking the GM.  I truly believe that Snyder has been humbled by the visiting team takeovers to the point he going to write Rivera a blank check to fix it and GTFO of the way.  With the cornerstones of a ferocious defense already in place, you have to like the Skins chances to get back to respectability and quickly.

Will Snyder F it up eventually? sure.  But for now I really think this guy has his tail between his legs.

He is from a time when players didn’t Grabass after the game and exchange jerseys.  Back then, they kept the anger going against the other team and especially against division rivals.  So for him, it was an EXTREME insult and very depressing, to have to be part of a hater division rival’s super bowl win.  And when it comes to the NFC East, the first eagles super bowl win was something that NONE of the other teams wanted to happen.

I'm not so sure Rivera is a good coach. He had 3 winning seasons out of 9. They have had some pretty good teams in those 9 years. Something tells me rivera is like Jeff Fisher

His career record was basically based on the head case that is Cam. As of now I still think he’s a good coach, great DC at bare minimum, but yea he could turn into a Jeff fisher type HC, being with the skins won’t help.

That's what I'm saying. Maybe if they get the right offensive coordinator he could be ok cause their offense is a mess.

I imagine a heavy run offense draining what's left of AP, ruining guice, and options with Haskins, mixed with short quick passes underneath. A wrinkle of Norv Turner and some younger spread looks.

Guice can’t stay healthy.  And I have my doubts about Haskins.  He did a little above average against crappy defenses towards the end of the year.

they need a TE badly, and I think they are going to lose some O-Linemen this offseason.

A survey explores how Native Americans feel about the name Washington Redskins. No, it’s not that survey. This one is new.

The controversy over the name is just soy-based hysteria.   "I am offended, so you can't say that!"   How did any of these people survive grade school is beyond me.

This is an era where everyone gets a trophy and nobody gets a failing grade.

As for the name 'controversy', I've said many times (maybe in this very thread), that I know a lot of Cherokee and have spoken to them about this and none of them were 'offended' and most of them are Redskins fans (some are Panthers fans, since Cherokee is in NC). They don't view it as 'belittling' them, the view it as 'honoring' them to an extent.

I remembered this discussion from last summer, so I wanted to see if you all saw the new survey

Quote

Study: Redskins’ name more offensive than previously reported

A new study says the Washington Redskins’ name is deemed offensive by nearly half of the more than 1,000 Native Americans polled, a far departure from previous studies that said an overwhelming majority of Native Americans are indifferent toward the moniker.

The study from the University of California, Berkeley, which is said to be the largest-scale investigation to date into the relationship between Native American identity and attitudes toward Native mascots, interviewed more than 1,000 self-identified Native Americans across 148 tribes in all 50 states.

The study revealed 49% of the participants either agreed or strongly agreed that the term "redskins” is offensive, while 38% were not bothered by it. The remaining 13% were undecided or indifferent.

However, that number rose to 67% among participants said to be heavily involved in native or tribal cultures, 60% among young people and 52% of people with tribal affiliations.

The study went beyond the Washington team. Of those polled, 57% who strongly identify as Native American and 67% of those frequently engaged in tribal cultural practices were deeply insulted by caricatures of Native American culture in general, which includes the "tomahawk chop” performed by teams such as the Atlanta Braves and the recent Super Bowl-champion Kansas City Chiefs.

These findings run counter to previous polls published by The Washington Post in recent years. A 2019 survey found that 68% of Native Americans were not offended by the name, and in 2016, that number was pegged at 90%.

The full findings of the study will be published later this month in the academic journal Social Psychological and Personality Science. Take a more in-depth look at available numbers here.

If the Skins do end up with Chase Young it isn't hard to imagine them taking the Jags/Niners path to a Dark Horse deep playoff run.  Both of those teams did it with elite defensive line play, a strong running game and not much else on the roster.

I mean that would be a hell of a DL that's for sure. But they don't have the offense or QB I don't think.

Their offense last year was #1 in Cap space spent thanks to Alex Smith.

So it will be a challenge to build with his contract hanging over their head (See Below)

At QB, they have a guy on a rookie contract, which helps a lot.  The question is if Haskins can grow into the role.  His rookie year was sub par.  I'm taking little stock into that as it is WAY to early.  Either way, they are set there, for better or worse.
TE: they have nothing.  Davis retired.  Reed has 3 toes left and quacks like a duck.  (Please, please retire dude, for your own health).  I'm guessing they will make a run at Olsen since he is trying to settle up this week.  Regardless if he signs, they will be players in FA or Draft for a second one.  There are some interesting upper teir options that may hit the market that could turn this hole into a strength, and they do have adequate cap space to do it (39 million under)
WR: They drafted well last year.  McLauren looks like the real deal and could bloom into a blue chip talent.  Sims looks like a very nice piece.  I'm curious to see what they do with Paul Richardson.  For his role, he is a tad expensive.  But cutting him only saves 2.5 million and you still have to fill that hole.  I wouldn't expect them to be big players here in FA or the Draft
RB: This one is about a year away from a major transition.  Adrian Peterson will probably be back one more year.  Only 3 million in cap space an the dude is a freak still getting it done at his age.  No, he won't be taken in the first round of your fantasy draft, or fifth, but he is serviceable.  Behind him you have Guice.  When Guice has been on the field, he has looked damn good.  BUT.... he hasn't been on the field due to injuries.  If he can stay healthy this year, he'll be the guy going into 2021.  If not, they will look in another direction.  Chris Thompson is a FA and has the same problem as Guice: great when healthy, but that's few and far between.  I expect them to take a RB later in the draft (5th round or later)
OLine: I'm going to guess this will have the most change.  I haven't looked today, but as of yesterday it sounds like Ron Rivera and Trent Williams finally had talks.  This could go either way, but honestly, if I was in Ron's position I would look to trade him.  I know this creates a huge hole but Trent really only has 2 years tops left.  And I'm not sure how you address this, unless you pass on Chase Young for a kings ransom in picks, trade down, and get an LT that way.  Might be smart because they pissed away this years 2nd on Sweat and could look to recoup a 2nd.  Erick Fowlers was a nice surprise for them, the switch to guard may have saved his career.  I expect them to resign him.  Scherff is a FA and IMO he is a top priority to retain.  Morgan Moses is meh.  He could be a target to be upgraded.  8.6 million against the cap and could save 4.8 cutting him.  It could go either way with him and I wouldn't be surprised.

Alex Smith's current cap conundrum:
$21,400,000 for 2020.  They can't cut him because that would cost an additional $10,800,000
2021 they could get relief.  He costs again $24,400,000 but they would save 13.6 million with a 10.8 million dead cap hit.  Not great, but there it is.
2022 is an unlikely scenario as he is probably cut in 2021, but he would cost $26,400,000, with $5.4 dead cap space for $21 million in savings.
