As bad as it sounds, I'm sure a lot of Raiders fans aren't too sad to see him go.

He was 82? He looked like he was 102.

The Raiders franchise has just been saved. Davis WAS a legend of the game but his maniacal pursuit of "excellence" the last 15 years has been a complete joke.

RIP. Say what you want about the way he ran the Raiders the last few years, but the man was a true legend of the game.

No matter what people think of his buffoonery the last 10 years, this man was an absolute NFL legend...

RIP Al

As cold as it may sound, this might save the Raiders. He should have given up making team decisions years ago.

This really sucks. Al Davis was one of those guys that you thought would never die. It's so weird to think that we will never hear jokes about his "stop watch" drafts.

Davis may have been the butt of jokes recently, but he did more for the game over the past 40 years than another other owner ever did ever.

He will be missed by all. Even fans who hated him still have to be in shock.

He was one of the key people in making the league what it is today.

World lost a brash, outside the box thinker that never backed down from the authority. He was also a self made mad, which isn't consistent among NFL ownership.

Who takes over the Raiders now? Does he have kids?

I think he does have kids but they where never interested in running the team

Al Davis and Tex Schramm probably go down as the two most important owners in NFL history.

Not splitting hairs bro, but the late Wellington Mara was pretty darn influential also

I'd add Lamar Hunt (the founder of the AFL) to the list too. Also, Tex Schramm was the GM of the Cowboys, but Clint Murchison owned the team.

Yup and Paul Brown would be top 5 also. I would prolly take Davis & Schramm 1-2 though, since they are the guys that did the most to transform a rugby-esque cult sport into the product that "beat baseball"
