ESPN suspends Stephen A. Smith over Ray Rice domestic abuse commentary

Recommended Posts

He's absolving himself by saying that Rice should have received a heavier punishment? He's not absolving anyone, it's crystal clear that he isn't absolving Rice

perfect example of what I meant by Smith opening himself up for people to fill his mouth with his words. This isn't about being provocative. Provocative would be showing too much skin, or speaking a unpopular opinion, or being abrasive. From the context, this is clearly about being violent. He used the word provoke, but it's clear he meant the type of provoke that means.... the woman was, in her own words, physically violent. Violence is physically assaulting someone to cause physical pain. It's F'ing obvious that's what he's talking about but why let what we all know to be true get in the way of a SJW narrative.

Exactly. People know he wasn't talking about how a woman dresses, he's talking about a woman assaulting or verbally berating men they know wouldn't hit them. I've seen that type of ratchet nonsense before, I've had the good sense and self-control to not get violent but simply leave worthless women like that alone. Ray didn't, he knocked her out. He's 100,000% WRONG for doing that. But as she admitted in her public statement, she was wrong too. Basically women shouldn't think they can do whatever to a man and not expect that some type of retaliation won't occur. It's not ideal, but it's reality.

I answered your questions. I cannot help that you have difficulties understanding the answers.

No, you didn't. You asked me questions back, which were completely irrelevant to what I asked you. I understand things perfectly, you don't want to answer the questions because you'd like to remain in this false reality you've created where you can blame people(Stephen A in this case) for saying things they didn't actually say.

Is it or is it not hyprocritical, to fire someone for having a different view....on a show that is marketed to the audience for debating different views?

So you don't see the problem with his comments pointing the finger back at women?

What was the issue? Ray Rice's 2 game suspension or the way women dress?

I can debate the low suspension by using the elevator camera footage that we do not see and the conversation between the parties and Goodell.

....but drawing a line back to women by being provocative is just wrong on all levels.

Screaming A Smith not being culpable for promoting domestic violence against women = the Redskins not being culpable for promoting a racist name aimed at Native Americans.

Both are ridiculous positions.

I won't miss him for a week, and honestly he'll be back on the air too soon. I can't stand watching Stephen A. Smith or Skip Bayless, and I always change the channel anytime either one of them is on. So imagine my surprise when they put them together on the same show! (Or maybe it was a brilliant move. Since they are on at the same time, it means there will be more screen time when neither of them are on!) I can't be the only person who refuses to watch those two blowhards, or am I?

I would feel bad for ScreaminAS, but I attribute his suspension to the same thing that is the reason I don't like listening to him. He rambles and rambles, never gets to a point, and tries to use big words to avoid conveying any type of idea. He should've said, 'listen, men should never hit women, but women shouldn't verbally or physically assault men either. Police or family members can only deal with the consequences of domestic violence, but the goal should be to avoid domestic violence using de-escalation techniques and such to keep things from getting out of control.' That's a great moral and universally acceptable. He didn't say that. He stumbled over his own mouth for 5 minutes and left a big hole in his meaning and got himself a week off for it. So great, he tongue tied himself into losing a paycheck. Maybe he should use that time to learn to get to his point concisely.

As for Ray Rice... he's suspended 2 weeks of work. He's not allowed at team facilities for the duration of two weeks. Saying game time is the only time they work is oversimplifying the situation to try to prove a point.

Only problem with that is he and Skip's show would only last about 2 minutes if they both made clear, concise points rather than lengthy, emotionally-charged rants.

Blown way out of proportion. He said it wrong no question but he never justified hitting a woman.

We all love to rush to judgment and demonize people.

Ok. Thats it. I just rushed to judgement along with millions of others. Gotcha ;)

he basically said if a woman strikes first or pushes to hard, Knock that **** out. .yep i over judged.

That's not what he said at all. He never at any point in his quote justified hitting women.

Nice reading there Michelle

Same here toolg. I refuse to watch ESPN or use their app. There is better coverage out there across the board.

Why does ESPN keep putting these guys on the air? They have to be losing viewers.

They got ratings when people can't finf the remote after Mike and mike or forget to turn the tv off before they go to work.

"Quite frankly" how long did that last? A month?

haha Exactly. If I take a day off thru the work week I'll usually have Mike & Mike on and as soon as I realize that garbage show has started I quickly run to the remote to change it.

Beadle should have been suspended for a twitter rant against a fellow employee (their rules)

She should have asked onto the show the next day and destroyed him in a debate.

Nice how she has now problem working with a hate-monger like Cowherd.

Rush Limbaugh got crucified for his comments about McNabb which were nothing compared to this.....nice to see Political Correctness bite the Lefty's on the a** every now and then.

Limbaugh deserved to be fired from ESPN for that, and I'm no lefty. That a-hole did more to make Mr. Sensitive worse, and prevented the Eagles from winning a SB under Reid.

Just after McNabb throws four TD's on a broken ankle, he comes back early and tanks the worst day of my life. UMMMM, he was not 100%? Limbaugh IS a racist predator.

If you wanna find a racist, go to church with Obama.....Limbaugh's comments were about the media, not McNabb.

Obama wasn't even a senator from IL 2003. Limbaugh was an idiot for confusing liberal political writers vs. sports writers, who happen to be idiots. Limbaugh "blindly" pointed that finger at the Philly sports media after McNabb "F*ed up". He didn't read the diatribes from the local media after the horrible loss to Tampa Bay. Limbaugh just "assumed"!, the Philly sports media gave him a "pass" because of the color of his skin. I READ the sports news post 1/2003, Limbaugh just assumed that liberal sportswriters are just as liberal as political writers, and was fired from ESPN for acting like an a-hole. McNabb was scorched by the Inquirer, and Daily News. Limbaugh thought he could get by with his rant because he figured all Eagle fans were blue collar union working former (Reagan) (racist) democrats.

Why did Limbaugh pick on McNabb? For the same reason he hated Bill Belichick for bringing out the Patriots as one team before SB XXXV against St. Louis? Limbaugh is insane, and thinks a one team collective leads to socialism. Let's not forget that Limbaugh went deaf from his passion for prescription opiates.

I used to love to listen to Rush during the 90's/early 00's. He was slightly sane. Limbaugh hasn't been sane since Clinton's impeachment.

Anyway you look at it sports is second at ESPN to self-promotion.

Asking ESPN to care about sports is like asking MTV to play music videos.

The guy deserves to be fired.

You're crazy.

SAS is saying don't put yourself in dangerous situations.

It's like me telling my children don't hang out with gang bangers. NOTHING good will come from it. Avoid any situation that will likely end badly.

You got a problem with a man, maybe screaming at them and hitting them in the face while everyone is liquored up is a bad first move. Maybe you should walk away before the situation escalates.

Stephen A never should have been suspended. But of course select morons will hear what they want. Morons like Michelle Beadle interpreting it as Stephen A saying women in short skirts deserve to be sexual assaulted. Even though he said NOTHING of the sort.

My view on what he said is that he encourages friends and family to never knowlingly create and contribute to a bad situation.

He isn't saying that it's ok to hit a woman but he made it a point to say it's wrong.

He shouldn't have been suspended for what he said.
