Michael Bennett says Seahawks deals are neglecting middle men

The Seahawks rewarded two of their stars with new contracts in recent weeks, but defensive end Michael Bennett fears Seattle's middle men might eventually be casualties of the spending spree, ESPN reports.

The Seahawks resolved contract disputes with quarterback Russell Wilson (four-year, $87.6 million deal) and linebacker Bobby Wagner (four-year, $43 million deal), signing both to multiyear extensions.

Safety Kam Chancellor continues to hold out from training camp due to unhappiness with his current deal, which he signed in 2013 and is scheduled to pay him $4,550,000 in base salary this season. Bennett, also seeking a new contract after signing a four-year deal last year that is scheduled to pay him $6 million this season, showed up to camp but doesn't sound like a player expecting the Seahawks to give him a new deal.

Chancellor's holdout, which reached a sixth day Wednesday, could potentially bleed into the regular season if the sides can't reach a middle ground, a source told ESPN's Josina Anderson.

"They can't pay everybody, but they do pay people," Bennett told Yahoo! Sports. "They pay certain people a lot of money, and other guys feel like they should be paid just as much as those guys because everybody contributes to the Super Bowls and the championships."

Just a matter of time. Anyone not see this coming? They overpaid Wilson by about 4-5 million a year. He actually believes he is worth #1 money(top paid QB in the league). He asked for and was going to holdout for 25 million a year.

Everybody saw this coming.  Lots of underpaid players that turned into stars at the same time and produced a Super Bowl.  They want their cut, or they'll get it elsewhere. They got the ring, now they need the dough.

I would love to see Kam in the Eagles secondary.

He signed an awful contract.

I think he is better than Thomas and as important as Sherman to that D.

Some holdouts are legit, and this is one of them.

The news out of Seahawks camp in Renton, Washington is that there is no news on the holdout of safety Kam Chancellor.

"I don't know that we're any closer but I know that we're all working, working to stay connected," head coach Pete Carroll told reporters after practice Saturday when asked about the strong safety. "There's still stuff to be talked out."

Chancellor wants to rework the four-year, $28 million extension he signed two seasons ago. Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson and linebacker Bobby Wagner have each inked big-time extensions this offseason, and running back Marshawn Lynch was rewarded with additional money after a brief camp holdout last year.

On Saturday, Carroll was asked if the ongoing holdout surprises him: "No, because he's very strong minded. He's wanted to make a very clear statement, which he's doing."

Yeah he would look good in midnight green.

Anything that has to do with football excellence never looks good in midnight green.

Every single team in the NFC East would love to have Kam as their safety.

True, but how could he even consider playing for anything less than the NFC East "gold standard".

What would he cost?

How much is he asking for?

He wants to be the highest paid safety in the NFL. Here's his contract from a few years ago

Kam Chancellor signed a four year contract extension with the Seahawks on April 23, 2013. Chancellor’s contract is worth $28,002,008 with $7.825 million in full guarantees upon signing and a total of $17 million guaranteed. The fully guaranteed money consists of a $5 million signing bonus and a $2.825 million base salary in 2013. Chancellor’s $4.725 million base salary in 2014 was guaranteed for injury and became fully guaranteed on February 7, 2014. In 2015 Chancellor has $4.45 million in injury guaranteed salary that will become fully guaranteed following the 2014 League Year Super Bowl.Chancellor’s contract contains a $325,008 roster bonus in 2017, which is paid out in 16 weekly installments for each game in which he is active that season. He will earn a $100,000 for each year in which he is selected to the Pro Bowl.
