The New York Giants have named Ben McAdoo as their new head coach.

By Vincent Rapisardi

1authorvince2.jpgTom Coughlin recommended one successor before he walked out the doors of the New York Giants facility for the final time: offensive coordinator, Ben McAdoo.

According to Ralph Vacchiano, the team has named McAdoo as their next head coach.

It's not a done deal yet, but a source says the Giants and Ben McAdoo are closing in on a deal to make him the next head coach.

McAdoo, 38, has been the team’s offensive coordinator over the past two seasons, resurrecting quarterback Eli Manningfrom turnover machine to elite status once again.

The year prior to McAdoo’s hire, the Giants ranked 28th in total offense, second-worst in turnover margin, and Manning, himself, had a touchdown to interception ratio under one.

It was bad.

In McAdoo’s first season as coordinator, the team ranked top 10 in total offense, Manning improved his touchdown to interception ratio by almost two full points, while improving on his passer rating by almost 25 points.

This past season, the team finished 8th in total offense with a +7 turnover margin; steady improvement over the season prior.

With the Philadelphia Eagles heavily interested in McAdoo, it’s interesting if that had anything to with this hire. Either way, tough to really complain considering his impact with New York thus far.

Lol, multiple reports say the eagles wanted to hire him...lol

Eagles don't even know what day it is, let alone who they want as HC

Eh.... lets give it a a year or two before we pat the Mara's/Tisch's of the world on the back shall we. I think this has more to do with continuity and not wanting Eli to have to learn a new offense at the ripe old age of 35(?) more than anything. The guy can obviously coach as an OC but HC.... we'll see.

Knowing the giants this tells me he was the absolute best candidate on the open market this off-season

IF true, its a double whammy.

I just hope they didnt pull the trigger on him because they didnt want the Eagles to get him - that would be the wrong move IMO.

They know exactly what day it is. The guy they want is Peterson, and they know the fans won't take too kindly to that. If they're going to jam another offensive minded coach down our throats I just assume it be Shurmur.

From what I hear thats who the players want and if Lurie is serious about listening to them I wouldnt be surprised if thats who you ended up with.

I'm afraid of that, but if it'll piss the fans off, isn't that what Lurie would like to avoid?

Not gonna lie, I'm not exactly thrilled.

I think they did it to appease Eli, which is definitely the wrong reason to hire the guy

Jeff McClane is citing two sources as saying he was philly's guy and it moved NY to speed up the process.

This has been the plan all along and while it may be a year or two early, I personally think it's the right move. He's the guy I wanted. This has very little to do with the Eagles showing interest and more about an organization that had a long term plan and stuck to it. This doesn't hurt the Eagles. McAdoo might have been a decent hire for them but he's more valuable to the Giants. There's plenty of good guys still out there for our rival to snatch up.

Once Hue shun them, they quickly went to the back up plan, the 70's porn stache OC...

I have no doubt McAdoo was their first choice. They were doing their due diligence when it comes to Hue. Nothing more.

I thought from the beginning, if Tom Coughlin were to step down/be fired, McAdoo would be the Giants new HC.

I had very little doubt as well, which is why I didn't get all that wrapped up in the coaching search.
