Carson Wentz or Marcus Mariota?

Carson Wentz or Marcus Mariota?

Mariota, hands down. No question. Wentz's small school background really didn't do it for me. I've watched every game Mariota played in College and I was comfortable with his apparent shortcomings.

The thing that jumps out at me in this comparison is the running games. Marcus and Carson both have very bright futures in the league but right now MM is in a better situation. The titans running game had over 1700 yards and 14 TD, Not counting Mariota's 350 yards running and 2 tds. I don't see our running game getting anywhere close to that. Also Mariota have 26td and 9 int with nobodies at WR make him look even more impressive. I would be very impressed if Wentz put up similar numbers. But with the group we have at RB I just don't see it. Wentz is obviously in a better passing situation but a successful running attack will help him out more so.

Posters that can overcome the natural bias are morons to those that can't........that's why I'm such a moron around here.

A QB is only as good as his team and coaching around him. We have all seen very good QBs never win a superbowl and some not so great QBs win one. It took Peyton 9 years to win 1, took Wilson just 2. Is Wilson better than Manning. The whole goal is to win a SB right? QBs are judged on SBs which is pretty sad.

I read that one very respected GM said that all the QBs that were drafted in the last 3 years he thinks that Mariota and Wentz are the 2 QBs that have all the tools to win the Superbowl. I love the intangibles of both QBs plus there athletsism they could be the top QBs down the road.I think Mariota has a lot of young talent around him for years to come

Winston is going to have a fun year with the weapons he has around him.

If Cowboys really thought Wentz was a franchise QB, they should have traded up to 2 like Eagles did. I don't know why they didn't. They would have had to give up less than Eagles did. Cowboys didn't trade up for Lynch either, and they ended up with Prescott. I would take Wentz over Prescott and (definitely) Lynch. Wentz was the QB I wanted in that draft if they were to draft one that year. If they had gotten Goff instead, I would have flipped out and be calling for Foles to start.

At the time, the Cowboys had Romo and his $21 million dollar contract on the books so there was no way they were going to trade up for Goff or Wentz.

Both are great young QB's. Marioto has an extra year of NFL experience plus more college experience and a better running game in TN. Right now you'd have to give the nod to MM. I think Carson is going to have a breakout season this year.

Right now Mariota.  The jump he had from his 1st to second season is what we are hoping Wentz does for this season.

Both have had similar talent (or lack of) around them, but have upgraded coming into this season.  While I think Wentz is the better prospect, he also has to deliver.

It's hard to argue with this! Both had rookie struggles in their first year and Mariota was able to make that real jump in his second. It's what we all hope Wentz can do and if he can then yeah I'd agree as a pocket passer I think Wentz has more talent plus he is able to avoid pressure and extend plays. Obviously Mariota is great at that but I think as a pure passer Wentz has the edge and that's what it's all about in this league.

Dallas may have taken him if he would have been there at 4 but but what Zeke has shown he was the right pick for Dallas. They got Dak in the 4th round so maybe the best of both worlds. They liked Wentz and have said that a few times but they didn't know what they had in Dak no one knew he would play this good. Mariota has played pretty well so far but in a few years we will know.

I don't don't know about that.... Everyone had a fear Mariota needed to play in a spread/read option to succeed and he had basically no problem converting to a pro system. Wentz came from a pro system and still struggled more then Mariota did his first year. This is coming from a guy that prefers Wentz over Mariota.

Eagles were in a 2 year/$36M contract with Bradford, but that didn't stop Eagles from trading up for Wentz.

If Dallas wanted him bad enough they could have traded up two spots to get him but with Stephen Jones running things they don't chase big name FA's anymore and are a much better drafting team now. Dak is their QB of the future and they got him in the 4th for cheap money. Romo had no buisness playing anymore so Dallas needed a QB last year.

Romo was the face of the team and a second son (or maybe third, I don't know) to Jerry Jones.  Much different front office dynamics.

Put it another way: if the Cowboys had it to do over again, do you think they would move up for Wentz or keep things the way they played out?

Well as it turned out Dak outplayed Wentz in his 1st year so why would they trade up a ton of picks for Wentz when they could get Dak and Zeke.

Keep in mind that Dak is got to be one of the lowest paid QB's in the league. That big time cap help even after paying Romo for two years.

Knowing what we know now do you think if the Eagles were in that position that they would make the trade for Wentz or take Zeke and pickup Dak in the later rounds.  It's a no brainer right now.

Right now they would keep it as it is because they got a stud RB and a guy who seems to be a really promising QB. But maybe we will be saying something different in a year's time... We can only hope! :-)

It's to easy to say now that we should of taken Zeke and Dak. I'm still happy with Wentz anything the cowboys did last year doesn't change my mind. Plus cowboys thinking they had Romo for at least one more year made it easier for them to wait on a QB.

I'm with you here! One good season from Dak in a favourable situation isn't going to change my mind on that yet! It needs a little bit more time before we can make any kind of proper assessment.
