[News] Early Thinking On Some Roster Battles To Watch

Recommended Posts

And the videos have been improving. Highlight reels are fine. But more and more now you can find good scouting videos. Where they focus on one game and highlight the player for you even. Those are great to evaluate with your own eyes. The good, the bad, the play went the other way....

Because many times that’s the best play a defender makes: when he covers his man so the QB doesn’t even think about going there with it. Nobody is recording that stat. But it’s crucial.

I find it interesting not just looking at the pure draft sites but other teams sites as well. The Seahawks stuff I usually find relevant.

Yeah, A couple years ago when my Grandson was playing high school football his coach was using the Pete Carroll rugby tackling video to retrain the team. I went over an watched a couple times and had to crack up laughing at some of the players. Still plenty of players out there that lead with their heads when it comes to tackling and when you take that away from them they are lost. Tough to break old habits.

If you're interested in the RFID system and how the Eagles use its' analytics;

http://www.philly.com/eagles/nfl-stats-advanced-analytics-next-gen-eagles-player-tracking-20190131.html

Maybe they're relying too much on the analytics and not enough on good medical / training personnel to prevent injuries? RFID is a tool but can't beat well trained personnel to evaluate a player.

Reports coming out that we are expected to tag Foles in an attempt to trade him

Which means there's a trade either agreed to, or in the works.

Per Adam Schefter

Quote

The Eagles refused to specify any of their plans for Foles. But being that other teams already have inquired on Foles' price, and it is expected to be around a third-round pick, the way for Philadelphia to secure its quarterback's rights this offseason would be with a franchise tag.

Before using their franchise tag, the Eagles first are expected to pick up Foles' $20 million option in the next week, per league sources. Foles then has the ability to void the option by paying the Eagles $2 million, which he also would be expected to do, per sources. And in turn, the Eagles then would be expected to place their franchise tag on Foles, giving them the ability to try to trade him to another team, which it sounds as if the team is determined to do.

GB - FINALLY watching "The Wrecking Crew", a vid I grabbed months ago on PBS. Mentioning cause they backed up EVERYONE, including Tommy James whom you like. GREAT VID!!!!!!! There was another one who backed up all the soul / R&B bands back in the day, have it saved somewhere. Leaving Comcast soon as I may have found a way to save to hard disk from their DVR. You would LOVE this vid~

To me it always felt like there should be competition for Foles services. Three of his excoaches teams need him. And at least three other teams need him. We’ll see what happens.

OK, so, right now, his option is already figured into the Eagles cap, if they tag him, you add another $4.4 million on to that. The franchise tag for QB's in 2019 is roughly $25 million. There will be a few restructures that are likely to happen, Jernigan is likely the next one.

All teams need to be under the cap before the new league year, March 13th at 4 PM.

Yeah, the Eagles will get $2 million but not because of the tag, that $2 million is credited if he opts out of the option. Once traded, the Eagles would get that $25 million credited back to them, plus the $2 million for Foles declining the option.

ok not really a technical person,so that means this "deal" would be 27 mil in cap savings(less the 4.4)? net 23?

Not really sure why we need to franchise tag Foles though? Wouldn’t it be better for a team to get him under his current option contract than the tag money?

Ham perhaps a bid war has started? IDK
