[News] Early Thinking On Some Roster Battles To Watch

Recommended Posts

I really like Suds likes him in the limited time I have seen him play in the NFL and I liked him coming out of college(if you look back far enough you will see me talking about Suds coming out of Indiana).....All this being said I wish to never see him in a critical situation on our team because for that to happen Wentz must get hurt and i don’t want that....So I’m perfectly fine with Suds staying a relative unknown maybe get some hype around him from great preseason play maybe a meanless week 17 game so we can flip him for a pick lol

Left a game once, down by 18 or so, we scored 3 TD's in 5 mins - I was in the parking lot and missed it! I want to see Suds in, has to be the right time - up by a bunch, bring him in for a few but then again want Wentz to practice 4 and 2 min O

I get we must continue to protect Wentz...love the kid, but I need to know if he is the one I pay 30mil to 35 mil a year. Wentz needs to prove he can stay on the field. I liked Suds in Washington, thought we’re probably gonna face Suds as Wash future QB. Then he became an Eagle I get I want to see more of what we think we have in Suds... think Suds could start on other teams. Thought Suds did well in the small samples when he was on the field.  It wouldn’t surprise me to see us Draft a QB in the 3rnd or 4 rnd. 2019 is gonna be about Wentz that said we always fight to keep that QB room stocked.

What are the options? He has shown he has the intellect, work ethic and talent. No doubt we absolutely want to sign him to that kind of deal. But I think it would be fair to have incentives in the contract. You make 20 mil if you suit up less than twelve games. Or a simple game by game pay based on his starts(with the caveat of a week 17 pointless game not held against him). He starts all 16 he gets 26 mil. If he makes Pro Bowl 28.5. MVP or Super Bowl victory ups it to 35. I’d be more than happy to pay that.

The only concern with Wentz for me is the health has to stay on the field(only has 1 season where he started all 16 games that was his rookie year) as for his play never once had any concerns about it.....Wentz at his best easily top 5 QB(yes will argue that with anyone) and injured he was still a top 15 QB(th is to me even further shows how great Wentz is when Healthy that pretty good season by majority of QBs was consider terrible for Wentz)

I believe the talking heads have it all wrong and Haskins is the better QB. Also believe the ganats will have to move up to get him - good for us!

Haskins is smarter, knows how to move around in the pocket, processes faster - you don't think with your foot speed as a QB. Processing quickly is prolly my fav eval of a QB

My thinnin of FA:

Vinny - good move! He really is a Philly guy, works hard and smart. Besides, we need more guys vs the run.

Sandejo - meh. We really need to get younger at S, helps us out for now. Sure wish Schwartz liked LB's,

DJax - no brainer, still need a young

Blount, RB,RB,RB,RB - Did I mention we need a RB? Montgomery?

As for Jernigan, if he doesn't come back to us, his career may be over - medical. I liked him too.

NO TO SHADY - he's done!

I'm out of Stoli, this Pinnacle stuff sucks! Rated high, just don't like it.

OK, watching a Skynard concert. "Back in the Day" saw them as an add on undercard to I think Allman Bros - $35! Front row for Parrothead at Fenway this yr - 4G! Noseblead a few hundred. For those of you in the Philly-Altwn - Check out Penn's Peak - the absolute best! I've seen a lot of shows there - Warren Haynes, Dickey Betts, both the Allmans ) Duanne used to live nearby around Nazereth ), Hall & Oates ( which was GREAT )

What do yous think of the "Woodstock" shows? I was born in '58 so didn't run away from home till 2 yrs later. Do remember being really pissed not so much about not being allowed to go - heck, I was 11! I was pissed about not experiencing it. Then again, I was too young for the draft, unlike certain people. I wouldn't have gone back then anyway, at least i admit it. Uh, oh - drinking and political - sue me

Vinny move...Oooohhhh Yea the band is getting back together.

Sandejo... thought Maddox would stay at third safety, especially with Darby coming back, but I get the need for a experienced guy in that spot.

DJax... loved this guy when he was here before... watched him Burn our Birds every time he faced us, no one on our Eagles could cover him. Many of the older heads didn’t like his brashness,  DJax has evolved to become one of the best Deep Threats in the game.

The other Jackson...just hope he gets back to the stud he was when he left Denver. Loved Jernnigan coming out of college... had hoped we would Draft him. Timmy injury was kinda shady , I don’t recall many details on how it happened. I would like him back for the right price, but we need to start looking for Fletcher Cox’s replacement.

I am jealous of the pair of young LB them stinking Cowgals have..🤮

Don’t really want any additional free agents if they negatively affect... our comp picks.

I would be surprised if we took a RB in rnd 1. If we can get our guy by the Eagle 2nd rounder. Think we could still get a difference maker in the 2nd round.  I loved Blount when he was here, loved his punishing style. He was a bench player in Detroit, didn’t seem as effective, does he still have it?

Thanks to Brain thrust on this page I have a almost expert understanding of the comp pick system... thanks to Joe,  the Don, Gbfl, Chamtheman, Wrang, so many great football minds on this page...Grateful to you guys.

WE HAVE TO GET YOUNGER...I suspect some of the older vet signings play into the Eagle Comp pick strategy.

Honesty I like the Sedejo signing gives us a vet 3rd S but at the same time doesn’t restrict us from drafting a guy(or possibly guy like Maddox etc.) from possibly beating him out either should provide great competition.

As for RB still see us adding two guys(possibly 3) the draft I still say 4th round we add a guy would not be shocked to see a legit UDFA contender added and likely but later in the process we are likely to add a vet RB CJ Anderson or bringing Sproles back etc

I went to Woodstock ‘94. Had an absolutely insane time. I’m sure nothing was like the original. But nothing after was as good a reunion as the ‘94. Three straight towns you never touched the pavement it was all empty beer boxes. I got to about thirty people from the stage of Green Day. Which is crazy. A couple hundred people in front of you was close there. But Green Day started a huge mud fight with the crowd. Just rocked it! They had that group Porno for Pyros. Which was the lead singer of Jane’s Addiction’s band. Had girls breathing fire and twisting from ropes by their teeth topless. Too many stories.

Just noticed... CBA expires after 2020.    Makes 2021 salary cap a little unknown.  As of now... Eagles are showing $30 mil for 2020.  Without any carry forward ... but without the draft picks counting either year.   Probably $13 mil total.  But it offsets a little with roster spots of the guys they will cut.    The core guys at the top, should all be back.  I would assume Wentz gets nice signing bonus ... keeping the cap hit fairly low.   2021 ... things will open up again a lot, but they key is replacing the players.   Jenkins, Brooks, Bradham, Kelce, Graham ... all 2 years older, might not be on the roster due to decline.  That's where these next two drafts come in.... not so much for cap space, but to establish a new core.   You would naturally prefer to establish that with your draft picks and just fill in with a few FAs.

Forget cap space and $$$... these next two drafts need to be good simply for roster turnover due to age.

JP is a big replacement need

Not really... lol.   DeSean is a football player who is fast ... not a track star attempting to play football.

Neither are the fast guys at the combine,so those aren't football players??? Did I put a track star on my mock someplace???

Agreed! I never see anyone discussing our talent evaluators though and what positions they are best at drafting. I personally believe they should stay away from drafting wide receivers because it is not their strong suit. What positions do you trust our scouts to pick! Has anyone read that the Eagles have added any knew talent scouts recently and how long do you give talent scouts to come up with some could picks before you replace them?

Wrang, maybe they should hire us peeps on the boards although they never draft anyone we pick(maybe thats a problem??? HAHA) I'll work for pizza, cheesesteaks, beer and Tastykakes

IDK if I follow any of that.   Not sure which scouts are in place now and who is making final decisions when Agholor or JMatt were drafted... everyone else afterthat doesn't matter to me. I can't complain if a 5th round WR doesn't pan out.   I think some picks are hits and others are misses.  At this point, I can't say we are good at one position and not good at another.  There is a lot to consider for a player to develop IMO.  Other than a true physical stud that is first round and pretty much at worst going to be a decent NFL player ... its hard for me to judge and complain about one person's fault.  How the player handles being an adult and having $$, how he comes in ready to work, how he fits in the system, how his position coach teaches him, opportunity to play right away.   All matter.  Too many circumstances for me to say how I feel about our scouts and WR.   Especially since we haven't taken one of significance since 2015.

The Eagles have found one Pro Bowl defensive player in their last 13 drafts, and that was Cox in 2012.

Their draft record has been better on offense, but the Lane Johnson/Ertz draft is now six years old.

well we dont have 3rd rounder lol,and unless you are planning to phase Wentz out in 2 years  would not spend a 4th on a QB.maybe a 6th,but frankly whomever we get is simply a camp arm,so I would go UDFA on that

This is a MEH RB class, even the odds on favorite to go first isn't the caliber of Zeke or bark.I see ZERO reason for a RB in the first 3 picks.Like Montogmery, but as I said none are really special, and so I put my RB in the 4th grabbing Higdon, and if he ends up as a UDFA,Ty Johnson from Maryland, who is rough, but has the tools and would be a nice project RB IMO.Both these guys would fit fine in our RBBC approach

Just saying this team has always placed strongest emphasis on having capable arms. Andy Reid, created a lasting emphasis on keeping young and talented arms in the mix it was always a Chip that played to our benefit.as possibly an Eagle starting QB. Or a resource in the trade game. This year QB class isn’t very deep but with soo many teams thinking they have their QB of the present and future. It wouldn’t surprise me  if the right piece fell that Doug and Howie could make a play.

Not a good thing brother lol.... Might have to give Bob Kraft a call for you....hehehehe....so he could help direct you to a not so lonely days or nights. Kraft is older than you he sounds like his women work weekends and peak holiday periods😉☺️ what you think bro. No need to be alone...  though some days I prefer it that way.🤔

I would use in the least my Eagles 2nd pick if we didn’t take Jacobs in the first. Still like Sanders from Penn State or Harris could fall to the third, Eagles could trade down to get that third rounder back.? Been doing this late rd UDFA for a long time and we’re still looking for that hammer. I would prefer a young hammer to pair up with Wentz.
