[News] Early Thinking On Some Roster Battles To Watch

I think we will be ok cap wise but you won't see the same caliber of players when we have 2 players with 100+ million dollar contracts in Wentz and Cox not to mention Lane and Ertz will want new deals before 2022 possibly before 2021. All of that is big money contracts. We will need to fill our holes cheaper in FA so drafting good will be of utmost importance. Not that it isn't now but it will be even more vital by then.

I think some of you are missing the cap going up with the next CBA.  If the players just get 1% more of the revenue share,  it will be huge.  The reliance on free agency around the league is not the way to go.  The level of players making it there will dip.  The type of signing the Eagles and Pat's have been doing,  older guys or one year type deals with the B level guys is what will most likely be available.

I don't see Cox, Ertz and Lane looking for more money. They are extremely well paid and have nice salaries going forward.  I can see some more restructuring to save cap space though, but nothing to hurt the cap.

The Eagles have to draft well and do ok in the UDFAs simply because it's the way you get players on your roster as they enter the league.  You develop them in your culture as your future core.   Jenkins is the exception,  the rest of the core was drafted here, it should remain similar in the future.

I guess you could say Jenkins, Brooks and Peter's are core guys that weren't drafted here.    But either way, regardless of salary cap,  you should always look to draft well or you are going to be in trouble down the road.

Denver built a team with a lot of free agents,  not sure any other champ was built that way?

That been the result with multiple 100 million players on the books with other teams ... I think Howie’s strategy with all these 1 yr deals and then letting them sign elsewhere has helped with amassing comp picks. That process  been very effective for the Patsies.. We cannot continue with just 4 or 5 Draft picks yearly. Got to replenish the cupboards with fresh talent. Those 1 yr deals have helped us.

Howard Eskin takes on the Eagles ...

Jenkins will have to come back, at his age he can't really hold out like Bell did.  Doesn't expect him to get any more money, not Eagles fault that some of these younger safeties got a little overpaid.

He also said he expects Chris Long to come back around training camp.   He said he still feels like he can play, but the Eagles couldn't guarantee him playing time. He is going to live in the area and he wants to play for the Eagles. ( this is a contrary view to most local guys who think Long is done and moving on)

Looking at Wentz he seems out of the woods via injury,  but like any QB he will continually be exposed due to nature of the position.

Sanders... can't see anything physically wrong with him as to why he isn't practicing.

I'm really happy for Carson that he's been able to remove his knee brace. Hopefully he can move forward in his career w/o ever needing it again.

So.... watch Jenkins get some extra money, Long stay retired, .... please don't jinx Wentz .... and a report will come out like a pulled hamstring for Sanders... lol.

No, don't wanna jinx Wentz lol. Sanders, I know how they like to keep injury front somewhat hush-hush until they feel it's necessary to release it. Hey, have to protect privacy of your employees.

I gotta be honest.  I haven't worried about Carson at all his whole career, barring one time.... last year vs Carolina when he had the opportunity to win a game at the end with a TD drive.   I need to see that.  Everything else (including the injury... and I say injury, because I believe if it wasn't for the knee he would be SB champ without missing a game in 3 years)  I can't blame him for running the ball into the end zone at a key moment in the season... which was how that one injury occured that caused him to miss NFL time.  I also believe the knee situation was a reason for the back issues to where they "decided to shut him down after losing to Dallas, where he played he best ball of the season to finish that game"

However.... don't jinx him Howard...lol.   He's a little too arrogant of a reporter at times, and the opposite of what he says tends to happen.

BTW... I think its great for Jenkins to not be there right now.... no Peters too.   Cox and a few others not on the field.   Guess who gets to be inserted in that leadership role on day 1 of the offeason???   Your boy #11.   which I believe that we missed this last year, and it had a negative effect on the team.   Need your leader and the guy who plays the most important position on the team to be there working from day 1.   He's had the opportunity one other time so far ... 2017, and I liked those results!

Welp anxious to see Howard/Clement,if he is anything like his old self in Chicago,it's gonna be a LONG season for other teams with the rest of the offense we have.Field stretcher in DeSean we didnt have before,Goedert coming into his own.Need the secondary to step it up a notch and we'll be fine

Being anxious and anticipation doesn't come close to describing how ready I am to see this O/team. With all of these weapons on the O I feel it's gonna be a great experience for JJAW and Lt. Col. Sanders. This O should be able to impose their will on D's.

I've seen a lot of talk on TV ... national tv, about Dak getting an extension.  " does he deserve top money etc."

I feel like a kid on Xmas eve, just waiting for that 9 figure deal locking in Dak as their QB.   Pay that man Jerry!

I believe you can win plenty of different ways. But the easiest and most consistent is by having great QB play. I’m not like the media putting every win or loss solely on the QB. But if you get down multiple scores it gets tough to come back relying on an elite RB. And so many games come down to limited time at the end and you have to score. With a minute and a half left in the game and you being down you want the best QB you can have. A RB can only do so much in that situation. And it happens all the time. That’s why a great QB trumps a great RB. Gives you more options to victory.

And how many times does a RB call an audible? That can be huge. A bad play and everything can go down hill quick. You change out of that bad play and into a great play against that defense and it’s a huge boost for you. Big swing!

So I stand by my Hollins isn’t a lock call. He still isn’t practicing.

Rumors swirling about Clowney maybe being on the trade block. That would be a huge addition. I’m in for that trade.

I would give up Jernigan and one of the CB to get Clowney here...Who do you have in mind? Clowney wants Fletcher Cox money... How could we afford him?

Not sure I get this huge pressing need the media is trying to make us have at DE...We went into the offseason thinking Long was gone(which he is) and addressed our DL accordingly.....Can’t see the 4th DE getting a ton of snaps this season hence the talks of Longs role being reduced and it has a ton to do with our additions at DT.....Having Malik now allows us to have another strong interior pass rusher next to Cox on passing downs without having to move a DE like Graham inside....If Graham stays outside more now on passing downs means less available snaps to other DEs and even after that the top backup to get the most snaps will be Curry

I am not saying we won’t upgrade if given the chance to at DE but I also don’t view it as this glaring hole either that media outlets have been making it out to be

I’m very interested in seeing what these young DEs we have can bring to the table. Sweat, Hall, Ostman and Miller. They will need every opportunity to improve and ...to prove what they got.

Love our interior trio  Cox, Jackson, Timmy, durability concerns with Barnett, Sweat, the new kids Hall, Miller, Ostman are all very promising...I would still like a veteran DE... We’re gonna miss Chris Long and I agree not a glaring need.really like the addition of Zach Brown hope he still has something left.

Were you alive then?  I was in college, ages ago...lol.   It was before free agency.  Reggie was still an Eagle.  The year Randall got hurt in the first game.  That defense was awesome!

Can't say you'd be wrong there Ham. If Mack isn't ready to go by TC at the very latest he could be in dire straits (good band BTW). All I can think is that he's experiencing post-surgery complications yet from the Sports Hernia. From what I've read about it I wouldn't wish it on a single soul. I've never had sports hernia, but had my share of groin strains from PT. I wish Hollins the best of luck. I'm confident he'd be a great addition to the team. He's a hell of a gunner on ST's too.

You were speaking of seeing if the young DE's can bring it or not. TC can't get here soon enough for me Ham! I'm STARVING for Eagles' football. image.gif.b18cbf3f37504234a68b3e31849717d5.gif58da31d08b1a3_EaglesPrimaryLogo87-95.png.97e85f15545ffd81a12a010c6cd858d3.png
