[News] Early Thinking On Some Roster Battles To Watch

Why would we have no clue how Howard will play when it’s showtime? He’s a proven commodity. Sanders does have to earn it. But obviously the investment in him was great. He will get his touches each week. He has to prove himself in pass pro. Showhe understands the blocking concepts and scheme. It will be a trial by fire. And then Sproles. He dresses because he’s your return man. Third and long back. So what does that leave for touches after that? Pretty much would just dress another guy to take snaps in a blowout situation.

If Sproles is your return man who are your BU's/scat back if you only roster 4 of them while Sanders learns on the job? And dont tell me its not possible for 2 to get hurt in the same season.I'm rostering 5 and one with the "mystery" illness and another on the PS.Worst case scenario is we have trade bait for a team who's 2/3 RB gets hurt before the season starts(Bryce Brown anyone?)

Unless.....the plan is starting week one to manage Wentz risk heavily. That we go for a very conservative approach to the season. Go with an extremely run heavy offense. Play defense and run the ball to limit Carson’s exposure to injury. It seems like pretty universally the thought is that this team is only as good as Carson’s health.

LOL yeah Foles had nothing to say about that eh?.This team is as good as the TEAM plays.Although Wentz is the best,we can win without him, cause we did that already

I mean if he performs well would we want to pay him especially since we just invested in a cheaper option already in Sanders??? And if he performs poorly would we want him back then anyway???? I would be fine keeping Howard if he does well but he seems like a 1 year rental player that hopefully gets paid well as a FA and we recoup a comp. pick equal or higher then what we have up.

Thats what Im saying but you said "likely" he is gone and I am disagreeing with you because we don't know what we have yet.Who cares bout CHEAP.you play the guy that gets you the Lombardi lol.Sanders will be "cheap" for another 3 years"

Hi Eagle fans! I’ve been buried with my new work responsibilities, but I was VERY excited to hear the news of Sproles coming back for one more season. Not only do I love how he plays the game, but I also think he will be able to teach the rookie how to be a professional. May Sanders LISTEN!

Lots to be excited about for the 2019 Eagles:

* Wentz to have an awesome bounce back year.

*. OLine youngsters get some much needed learning snaps to build for the future.

* RB group expected to make a MUCH bigger contribution. Goodbye Adams, hello Sanders!

* Biggest concern - defensive backs - outside of Malcolm Jenkins who continues to be OUTSTANDING, the rest is a hodge podge of returning inured players and maybe second tier. Sidney Jones....time to step up!

Sudfeld isn’t Foles. We need Wentz as close to 100 percent as possible for the postseason. The goal isn’t to be 8-8. Postseason success is how this season will be judged...period.

I do think it is likely he is gone...If don’t see us paying Howard what he will make as a FA and we will opt just to recoup the comp. pick....You can believe what you want though

To be fair we have no clue what Suds is he could be better then Foles...I would rather never have to find out but also not going to pre-judge the guy either

I don't recall Suds being put in a "must win the rest of the season" scenario,so how do you know? I need your crystal ball.If they didn't think he was "as good as Foles" we woulda kept Foles lol

No clue,I have to see what he does this season, apparently the Eagles feel the same, thus the 1 year rental contract. If he rushes for 1200 yards, you're not keeping him? Amazing how you know he's already gone next year lol

Exactly.I have been saying I would like to see him more, but there wasn't an opportunity. What we get to see and what the coaches see are much different

If he rushes for 1200 yards you looking st a hefty contract maybe not as high a Zeke will get but not far off either....And with plenty of other guys in need of deals coming up, Wentz contract starts to come into effect and of course just having some wiggle room to work with topped off with us just spending a high draft pick of a RB that will be significantly cheaper(with us able to recoup the pick we used to get Howard he’ll likely get a bette pick in return) I just don’t see him staying on the team next year....

Again if I’m wrong I’m wrong be glad if I am I like Howard but business wise him walking in the offseason just makes the most sense

You're gonna hold a guy back for 11 games? If he's the best player you PLAY him.If he gets hurt, next man up,thats why we have all these other RB'S

A Player like Sproles and YEA I get this is Football....Smart teams have been doing load management on their older proven players for years. So a proven, Driven player like Sproles who dealt with injury issues the last 2 years... Hell to the Yea ... I want Sproles sharp for the playoffs... Not chasing meaningless stats in the regular season.

Sproles is a player with potential HOF stats already in the books  Managing his load and keeping some of our young guys in the RB rotation our younger players stay improving on the field...especially with only one Eagle Rb signed thru next season (tks  mjkline1958)

I would limit his carries and let Howard, Sanders, Adams ...Clement who probably will start the season on the PUP list. Puts Boston in the rotation... Sproles will be used as a specialist and be unleashed in the playoffs. Sproles to me ain’t here just to improve his stats... he has said he wants to close out his career with a Championship and chose  Philly to do it with

I'm not saying one or the other at this point.Let's get through the season first before we make roster decisions

Well Sproles never was a 3 down back anyway.he will play his snaps during season and in post season if we get there.See no reason to limit him as he is already limited to 1 down and doing returns.he wants to play, not be a trophy case player.I don't see snap counts changing very much.If we could change the whole team concept to suit Foles,I don't see us not being able to change it a little if Sproles goes out

That's the way I'm lookin' at it Ham. Play ball control and only use Wentz enough to keep the run game going and the D honest. As balanced as possible. Of course that'll vary to degrees with the opponent

personally I think it would be better to play Sproles, then play Sanders in post season more as now they have another guy to look at and plan for when they had already planned for Sproles lol

I see it the opposite.I see Wentz being "turned loose" We invested alot of money in 3 WR's.Why would we do that to not play them or have them contribute in a BIG way? Get a 30 point lead, then we can talk ball control. This is a passing league and we invested in the players to do that

BTW I am so confident of the above I want Wentz as my fantasy QB,because our RB's can ALL catch also(even Howard)

IDK as a coach would you have,in their prime, told Peyton or Favre to "just hand the ball off"? This season IMO it's on the Oline if you want to keep Wentz upright.Sorry, limiting Wentz is NOT why we got him,nor how he plays the game.If we have to go to Suds,THEN we go a bit more conservative like we did with Foles.Wentz is a competitor and you gotta let those type A players play

LOL, I didn't say not to use the aerial attack. Keep the run working enough (aka pass game) to keep Coach's confidence in calling runs and help keep the D from teeing off. The OL is plenty talented enough to give Wentz time to pick the D apart and take shots. Maintain a healthy mix according to what the game dictates.  Let Wentz fire as needed. Like I said, the opponent and/or score will help determine the flow on offense. IDK if the D/scheme will be talented enough for the O to simply play 'smash mouth' keep away.

He didn't do much last year due to being phased out,he has yet to be "proven" in Philly no?

I see it as Howard will prove himself right from wk. 1. He's not out of practice and don't think he's lost a step at all. I want 5 RB's (if that 5th turns out to be an oft used ST's arse kicker) and see a true RBBC.  All of the RB's skills (Howard, Sanders (I Can See "green field" for Miles), Clement and Sproles, compliment each other well. Smalls, Adams and Bon Scott to be determined by way of TC IF they show can be key contributors to ST's.
