Black Monday: Who's on the Hot Seat in 2019? Who gets fired?

Recommended Posts

With 2019 training camps about a month and a half away, it's not too soon to start thinking about the 'Hot Seat'. So, who's on it this year?

Jay Gruden FIRED 10/07/2019 after Week 5 loss to the Patriots making them 0-5
Jason Garrett?
John Harbaugh?

I'd add Andy to the list, but I think last season has given him at least a couple more years off the hot seat.

Feels like an off year for firings as it should be coming off 7.  What does Garrett need to do for an extension?  SB or bust?  I know Bill O'Brien just got an extension but he's been living on excuses for a while now.  Jay Gruden has been doing as well as can be asked, but somebody needs to be the scapegoat and it won't be the FO.  Mike Zimmer definitely needs a big season in Minny.  The Arians experiment in Tampa has 1 and done symptoms all over it.  Matt Patrica needs to show progress immediately.

Good list.

Never thought we'd see the day that Marvin Lewis would finally get booted.

The only one on the list I think is safe is Mike Tomlin. But I thought for sure he would get the axe after last year's disaster.

I feel like Marvin Lewis was a mainstay on these lists for a solid decade

I know the Steelers don't cycle through coaches very often, but I feel like Tomlin is on the hot seat if the Steelers finish behind the Browns and Ravens, especially after kicking their two best players to the curb.

Unfortunately I think Jay Gruden's time in DC is done. Snyder will put the blame on him for not keeping the team unified.

Is Flores going to get fired his first year as Dolphins HC?

If the locker room turns on him, possibly. Generally speaking, I don't think any coach should get fired after a year, but if the team quits on you, there may not be much choice.

Seems a little unfair really that they'd quit on him in their first game. The players to me are the ones who should be fired. Obviously I know that won't happen.

I don't even know if they have quit on Flores. I was speaking more in general. If a team loses faith in the coach, good luck getting them to all play hard for him again.

No I know I was just bringing it back to the current situation in Miami.

Yeah, that's a little more complex. Players demanding a trade may not be a direct shot at Flores, but at the organization if they really are tanking.

Jay Grudens seat is getting warmer by the minute. Team was disgruntled by Peterson being inactive last week (and he used Sproles as an excuse? Lol)

And now they've blown a lead in 2 straight weeks.

Sucks too, because I really like him ( as the 'Skins coach haha).

Depends. If the team looks like absolute doodoo, better to cut your losses. Unless the Dolphins are trying to get the #1 pick

Right. I wasn’t necessarily speaking specifically about Miami. I don’t know what the players think of Flores.

I was actually coming on here to ask Giants fans if they wanted him gone yet, or if this is too soon.

If they fire him though, look on the bright side. Chip Kelly will likely be available...

Giants have hired  offensive minded coaches since 1999, and out side of a few years the defense has suck.

Those good years were SB years, the offensive minded coaches have sucked with DC choices, it's time for a defensive minded HC...

It may depend on how much the players hold Flores responsible for their condition. If they mostly blame the F.O. rather than head coach he may be okay with the players. Of course there may have to be a scape goat ..............
